Good point Bobbies chick. :D I haven't picked her up lately, but she seems to be in good health and was laying eggs up until the other day...
It would be a shorter cycle with the shipped day old chicks, hopefully that won't cause her to reject them.
Oh no! It was fun watching her hatch them...
Well my broody BO who hatched out the four barnyard mix chicks at the beginning of June is at it again.....she hasn't moved from the nest box all day.
And just as I am placing an order for day old sexed female chicks!
Apparently, the four she hatched are turning out to be all cockerels!! :rant...
Hey All! I haven't been on here in a bit, but had some updated pics of my broody and her chicks I wanted to post. Hope everyone's chicks and chicks to be are doing well!
Just a few days old
One week old
Getting their feathers
And here they are today at 2.5 weeks...
That made me tear up a bit poor things. That is so wonderful that you have his offspring to continue with though!
I was so hoping that I could hatch a few of my nice NH roos offspring before we had to get rid of him, since I am not allowed to have roosters on my property, but it didn't work...
Besides all the great info and help on BYC these are my next favorite thing! Lol
:frow :highfive: :weee :jumpy :celebrate
Now that you know, have fun with them! :D
I'm betting one of the sultans was involved somewhere down the line. I can't wait to see what this little one look like as it grows. I will post update pics as well :)
What an adorable pair! I'm so sorry you lost them, especially like that :( The partridge color is very pretty. Sounds like you are off to a good start with rebuilding your flock.
That's great to know! I love the look of Buff Brahmas, so maybe I will get some one day and not have to worry about messy legs :D
As far as I know there shouldn't have been silkies anywhere on her property.... I really need productive egg layers :/
That is helpful information. Chicken genetics...
That's ok by me lol! A big poofy head would probably get pecked like crazy in my mixed flock. Light feathering on the legs is probably fine, I just think heavily feathered legs must get so messy! Maybe I will email the lady and see if she thinks it could be sultan offspring :P
hmmm good question I will have to investigate and report back. These are eggs I purchased locally. She stated she had "sultans, silver spangled hamburg, frizzles, and a large variety of excellent layers but all crosses my roosters are nh reds and I also have white leghorns, Americaunas...
Here is the little buff chick with thin brown stripes. Not sure what kind of mix this could be. I know ameracauna chicks have stripes, but I didn't have any colored eggs..hmmm....
Here is most of the crew so far. The little plain reddish buff one is very camera shy so I dont have any...
I'm sorry to read about the little chick that didn't make it out but very glad you have some other little peeps that did!
Good luck with the remaining four!!
So cute! The same thing is happening over here lol. Every chick is a different color and all different from Momma  Of course mine were barnyard mix eggs, but still I was expecting some repeats. I agree, variety is a wonderful thing :D
Finally! Actual pictures of a chick!
A little lavender one popped out for some fresh air! This one makes three that I have seen....maybe one or two more to go!
How the heck did I end up with a lavender chick? I'm seriously confused.
Any thoughts?
Not a very good picture lol but it's all I have been able to get so far.
I'm afraid to lift her off and cause a problem. The black chick snuck out for a brief second, but I didn't have my camera ready...rookie mistake! The little buff one is on the left of the black one, but mostly hidden under...
Thanks LisaLouHoo!
That's great that your NH mix pullets turned out to be good layers. I'm hoping for the same!
Today is day 21 over here, I set them the night after Mother's Day. One of mine hatched sometime during the day yesterday. Hopefully you get some pips or peeps today as well...
