Often the eggs simply expload. I have used many broodies, even x-egg eaters and none have ever broken an egg to eat it. Once broodyness sets in they get a lot of brains.

How many chicks under that pile of broodys? and Congrats on the sucessful hatch, but with tha many hens sitting how could you not have!!! very pretty girls I might add!!!!
So far I have only seen one chick, but I have not lifted them up to look for more. Who knows how...
Here are some pictures of my "pile" of broody Silkies. About a month ago I just stopped picking up the floor eggs (mostly Silkie eggs) and this is the result

If she is in with non broodys then this has probably happened before and the eggs will not hatch. The eggs can take some periods with cold air, but not to many for vary long.

Looks like an excellent design moving a partially broody hen to her own space may encourage her to become broody, which is what I did with a broody Silkie yesterday.

This past summer i had a careless broody that went into the broody coop without her chicks, it rained hard that night and all the chicks died. She seemed quite depressed, it took over a month for her to start laying again. Your hen will eventually get over it, but for the chicks sake...

They should be fine, I had a broody last summer that gave up a week before they were due. It was at least five hours by the time I got another broody to finish the job, still had a great hatch!

You mean for eating? I sell mine for $2.00 a dozen.
My nephew wants to buy 6 to incubate. I sell my other eggs for eating for $2 a dozen too.
I would sell them for the same price.

See how they get along but you will probably have to keep them apart. The chicks should be fine on that feed.
Do you know a price for selling fertilized eggs? Just curious.
Thanks,
Emily

I use feed somewhere between laying feed and chick feed. The chicks will be fine with that type of ration as long as they are aloud to forage.
I have some scratch grains in a the nest box and the chick does eat a little of that and a little of the feed so far. They haven't been out...

I bought chick starter and that should be good for their food, right?
Thank you!

Do you mean that while she was brooding, you kept adding one egg a day?, or do you mean that they were laid over a six day period and she started setting on them at the same time? Chicks are mobile after a day or so.

I think you forgot to add Key West Hens in there. They are excellent mothers and go broody very easily. I just had two go broody a few days apart and hatch chicks the same day. They are sharing mothering of 17 babies!! Here they are when they were first hatching out chicks together...
