i didn't lock them together they got out every day from the brooder to free range but at the end of the day so the other hens couldn't get to the chick starter. I guess it doesn't really matter i'm pretty sure either she killed him or he got eaten I couldn't find him when I went to go put...
yes it is a single chick she had two more chicks to hatch out but after this one hatched she sometime in the night moved the chick to next nest box over and both other chicks died in the shell. I have been checking the chick regularly every few days since it hatched but the chick seems very...
their are ways to discourage broody-ness but it depends on the breed if the broody ness has been breed from the breed the chicken won't go broody but if not then it will go broody but its not the end of the world if it does
i have an open question i could use some help on, my broody started attacking the lone chick she hatched out (Christmas weekend) yesterday (blood has been drawn) for no reason at first it was just a few lite pecks on his body then yesterday night she started pulling the fluff down out from his...
yeah my hen is sitting on 8 eggs but only two are fertile and looking like they will hatch so I'm going to let her sit on the remaining eggs then tomorrow im going to my feed store in the morning and I'm going to get her 6 chicks and pull a bait and switch on her
well that defiantly would explain a lot. sucks about the clears my grams said the best roosters where Rhode island reds but I heard they can be super aggressive so I think I be going with leggerns
yay I just candled the eggs and I think we may have two eggs to hatch one I think for sure is going to hatch when I candled the eggs the chick was all but dancing on the inside but the other 6 are no good; clear as the day she started laying on them. it sucks cause the only reason I let 3...
well my feed store always had chicks for sale but unless you came when the old farmer was there (because he ordered them) which is only roughly once a month if you are standing on one foot at 7 am and leaning in the correct direction to the north while whistling dixie in c minor, you wouldn't...

ok ill put some food next to her shortly she's is on day 6 so I'll keep an eye on her weight, but that is good to hear those **** roosters piss me off I can't believe my dad wants me to keep them all
so I have an open question(s) one of my bantams went broody in my bigger coop. But the thing is she isn't taking care of her self I have been going out to the coop several times a day to check on her and to my knowledge she hasn't eaten etc in almost 5 days. when my grams hens would go broody...

i don't know about those breeds but be sure if you do try to hatch with them you have a back-up plan (cheap incubator) if one of the hens drops the brood because it is always a gamble letting first time...
it is up to you. from what i saw with my grams hens the hen is most determined to sit during hatching so moving her shouldn't be an issue if you are fast.
