    The Legbar Thread!

Do I understand correctly that all of the CLs in this country were originally imported by Greenfire Farms? I wonder how many they imported at that time. If all the Legbars go back to them, and they only imported a few, then I would think the gene pool is pretty small. A small gene pool in...

    The Legbar Thread!

You're situation sounds very frustrating. To me, it sounds like there might be a recurring genetic problem with the eggs themselves. The breeder may have initially started her flock with a hen that carried the gene and then after several generations it became a genetic trait within her flock...

    The Legbar Thread!

Do you know if all of you're hens are related or what the breeding practices are of the breeder you got them from? Could it be a genetic thing? If the shells are thin one would just think they need a dietary change but they are on the same food as the rest of the flock, so?? Do they eat as...

    The Legbar Thread!

Thank you chickat, what a great post. I'm planning on getting my next Legbars from Greenfire Farms. I've been emailing with them about how they manage the inbreeding issue and looks like a good place to get them from. I'm also searching around for other breeders to further diversify the genetics...

    The Legbar Thread!

II started raising chickens in April of this year. For my first hatch, with my first broody hen, I ordered Legbar hatching eggs. Out of 7 eggs, 4 didn't develop at all, 1 died at 10wks and 2 hatched(both roosters):). These handsome little roosters are REALLY timid. They also don't seem to...

Hey there Legbar owners, my broody Austrolorp hatched out her first clutch last Thursday and she is such a good momma to these two Cream Legbar boys! I just found this thread and I was hoping y'all could tell me something about these Legbar's personalities? Can anyone tell if see are boys...
