    The Legbar Thread!

I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that less stressed birds will produce more female chicks. I've followed this research closely. here's the link to the white leghorn study: http://www.uspoultry.org/research/resproj/PROJ_F027.html They note that the results were the opposite what was...

    The Legbar Thread!

I've crossed CL roo x Delaware hen. The females are a light buff gold and usually have some dark spots on their head. The boys are bright light yellow and so far none have had dark spots on their heads. I'd recommend using hens with not only silver, but also columbian restriction, so you can...

I also think they should be lovely birds. I've got a few more eggs in the incubator now. My Delaware took a short winter break even in sunny San Diego, but she's laying again, so I will continue to collect and hatch them. So I may have some pictures eventually. Also, two of the three girls...

I posted about a CL chick of ambigous sex a few weeks ago. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/729142/help-sex-my-ambiguous-cream-legbar-day-old Updated photo is on the thread linked above. (I'm not seeing any development of male secondary sex characteristics yet at 3 weeks).

Yes. There is Gold. My understanding is that the "correct" genetics for CLs should be homozygous for gold ( s+/s+) and cream dilution (ig/ig). They shouldn't have any Silver (S). BTW, this means that if you cross CLs with anything without cream, the gold should come through as undiluted gold...

If anyone wants to help sex my ambiguous day-old CL chick please click over to the thread I started in the "What sex or breed is this" forum: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/729142/help-sex-my-ambiguous-cream-legbar-day-old It has no head spot, but also lacks clearly defined chipmunk...

    The Legbar Thread!

My Cream Legbar hen just started laying! I'm so excited. I visited her on the farm this morning and she laid a tiny pullet egg on Thursday, and a larger pointy egg probably yesterday. The blastodisc in the larger egg didn't show signs of fertility yet. I had just put her back with the roo on...

3.5 months sounds more reasonable. I was still finalizing my arrangements to keep this pair at a farm run by a local non-profit. I thought I had a bit longer...

    The Legbar Thread!

I can't speak to when they start laying, but my cockerel just started trying to crow at 7 weeks! (I saying "trying" because he's going to need some practice before its recognizable as a rooster crowing). I'm going to have to move him out of the city sooner than I expected...

BYC user "Phage" is in San Diego County and has Cream Legbar chicks for sale. I bought Cream Legbar chicks from her at the last San Diego BYC meetup. At that point what she was selling were chicks she had hatched from eggs she had purchased from other breeders. You could PM her, or look on San...

    The Legbar Thread!

I have a Cream Legbar pair about 6 weeks old, and the roo's comb is coming in crooked. The pullet's is less developed, but seems to be potentially crooked as well (but she has a nice crest). I am attaching pictures. They come from different sources of hatching eggs, but hatched by the same...
