I had a dozen, three quit in the first week (blood rings) but the remaining 9 all hatched, I was quite pleased. I got my eggs from Smithey Poultry up in North Georgia. They were a lovely sky blue, so I'm looking forward to some pretty blue eggs next Spring. :)
Thanks all. Sorry for the blurry pics, it's so hard to get them to stand still!
Here's another photo, the blurry one in the middle is definitely a girl. The iffy one I was holding is on the far right, he/she doesn't have a defined V, but he/she's rocking some serious eyeliner. I'll be...
All 9 of the eggs that went into lockdown hatched overnight! I believe I have 5 males and 4 females, hoping y'all can confirm?
I think the three on the far right are female, as well as the one on the left in the front. The other 5 have yellow head spots and not very defined stripes or...
Thanks for the tips, looks like I found someone in N. Georgia. I'm excited, legbars were what I wanted since I first got chickens but I couldn't find any around me for reasonable prices. I guess 3 years ago they were just still too new. Hope I have a good hatch. :)
Anyone in the Atlanta area with Cream Legbar hatching eggs for sale? I'm trying to get in a hatch before fall. I'd love to set a dozen this weekend if possible.
I don't have legbars yet, but when the day comes, I would still much rather pay extra and buy from a trusted breeder like Greenfire or Jordan Farm. I know cost is top priority for some but there are still plenty like me who value quality over all.
No, and in fact in ordinance just changed in 2010 to prohibit them. It's a real shame.
To keep it topical, here are some scary Legbar broody noises I found while looking around. [Warning! loud video!]
I currently rent in Georgia, but even if I owned, the only chicken allowed within city limits is Chick-fil-A and Zaxby's.
I'm going to start looking for a home in early 2013. I hope the realtor doesn't think I'm a crazy when I say to him/her, "Yes, the kitchen is lovely but I need to tour...
Well it took a few days but I finally got through this thread. I am totally in love with this breed and someday when I have chickens, this will be the breed for me. Beautiful plumage, blue eggs, and Punnett nerd cred! What more could you ask for?
Just wanted to say thanks for all the pics...
