Thanks! She has become very beautiful and is settling down quite a bit, which is really nice. She had me fooled for a while too. I think it's crazy ironic that she is actually the first one of my EE group to start laying! :P
Thanks so much! I'm glad I hung on to her, too. Though she did have me convinced for a short time when she was younger. :P
Love the name of your boy, BTW!
Here's my "what is it" at 17 weeks. Everybody on this thread has thought roo from the start. On the EE club thread, the majority is pullet. No crowing, no mounting. It doesn't look anywhere near as manly as yours, but has red. But the patterning is very even. ????
I have a pullet that grew up looking a lot like yours. People were skeptical she was a she, but I am 99.9% positive now. Just waiting on the .1% egg! :P Here she is around 8 weeks I believe. I haven't taken any more recently, but she is 17 weeks now. She is beautiful and her color has really...
^ Wow, I love that first one's patterning. Very handsome!
As for gender guesses, someone else will have to do that. I'm still convinced I have a hermaphrodite EE, it shows both male and female signs.
Posting here, too.
So, at 12 weeks, shouldn't "his" comb be getting larger/darker now? It isn't even as red as in the pics. No crowing yet, either. Is he just a slow bloomer, or could I hold out hope for another pullet? :P
This was even taken several weeks ago. She is 12 weeks now, with no significant difference in patterning, comb size or color. I'm very pleased because she has been my favorite from the get go and with so many b&w ending up male. :)
It's a fuzzy one, but this is the most recent. She's checking...
Here are my darker two, which I think are pullets.
Chicken-Hawk is a bit bigger than everyone else, but I don't really think you can use that as an honest to goodness roo indicator. I have a BSL that started off the runt and at 4 weeks exploded into monster chicken and has been much larger...
Thanks Faraday! I appreciate your input and taking the time to look at them. I cannot tell if the last one's neck feathers are pointed or if the two toned color is making it look that way. I am thinking the second one is a pullet, but the first and third are tricky. I'll keep updating...
Okay, the lighter guys close ups for all your considerations!
Approximately 8 weeks old, last pictures were posted around 5 weeks, I believe.
The roo. The one who holds his tail upright, has the darkest red on his wings, and is developing black around his neck. Last time I posted pictures...
My "for sure roo" ALWAYS carries his tail high, while the others do not. He has the darkest red on his wings and is getting blackish around his neck. On the other light guy, the color on his wings is more of a peachy red and the other light one is a yellowy peach color. Maybe I only have the one...
^ No opinion from me, still learning as well ;) , but I was just curious how old they are?
The last one looks like one of mine that I'm certain is a girl, but watch me be wrong!
