This is good to hear. I just hatched some BLRW from a new source, the chicks are just about 2 weeks old and the legs are not quite as yellow as I'd like. Crossing my fingers that they'll change.
'Hay' all? Lol
This is my first year with them, they are laying for me in this bitter bitter cold, the Marans, Orpingtons, OEs, And EEs have stopped, but the Wyandotte's are still laying. I've read about them being bossy with the other chooks but have not found this to be true. I have one...
It's when a breeder keeps 2 separate lines of the same breed and variety, one line geared toward producing pullets with the traits that the breeder would like, and the other producing superior cockerels.
I'm liking this dark blue girl (not the comb so much), she's easy on the eye. Black Orp in the background.
This girl's a bit flighty, and doesn't have the best type. Her legs could be a bit more yellow too, anyone know what the deal is with the slate coloring running up the front of her...
I got a blue by accident too….was hatched from some BLRW eggs we bought at a show. Her leg color is off (sposed to be yellow, right?) Anyway, here she is, I kept her as I really have a soft spot for blue birds. The blue bird to the right, behind her is one of my blue orpingtons.
I don't know the breed or this variety well enough to tell...I think splash. We call her 'the good one' as her type is better than her 3 sisters. I hope to be in Massachusettes for the Northeastern Poultry Congress, maybe I'll pick up a Roo there...? I don't show Wyandottes, but I saw some...
My bouquet of chicks. 8 of these were sold to me as BLRW eggs, 3 seemed to be colored appropriately. 2 of the supposed BLRW are completely slate in color and even have slate legs. One appears completely splash like from a BBS breeding. At least none have a straight comb, and they are sweet...
Sounds like you're putting a lot of thought into this, well done, you! I'm guessing that you already know using one of the crosses would not be a good idea. It's hard to get the information needed when the variety you're breeding has not been accepted into the Standard.
I'm sorry I don't...
Nava, me too! That chick is so cool looking he/she is becoming a favorite.
Salinas Chicken, beautiful girls!
and now a question: I feel certain that this is a Roo the only chick to hatch from 30 eggs. Does he have any attributes that I want to cover hens from my new hatch (different line)I...
