From experience, if your 15 week old has bigger legs and comb than your 31 week olds.... he is a he! And at 15 weeks, the feathers should definitely show a roo or pullet!
Do you have any BLRW girls to compare it to? At 15 weeks you should know the sex, at 4 to 6 weeks there are considerable differences between the boys and girls; leg and comb size, saddle and back feathers. It's difficult to see in these pictures with close ups. If you Google how to sex BLRWs you...
Check the feathers at the base of the neck on their backs and the saddle feathers, should be coming out by now. Long and skinny are males. short and round are girls. Pretty fool proof for Wyans.
Technically I think they would be considered Splash, but there is little to no blue lacing and the red is very washed out. The darker on in the back looks like a roo if these are all the same age??? Just my opinion...
I think the roos grow faster than the girls AND their skin. lol My rooster hit a growth spurt and thinned out a little, at the same time he spent a lot of energy chasing the girls.... You know how teens are! You can up the crude fat % in his diet if you are really concerned or give him game cock...
The woman I got mine from showed me feathers at the base of the neck of both boys and girls at six weeks. Even that young the feathers were very different...Fingers crossed for a girl!
It's difficult to see in the pictures. But here is an easy way to tell the difference. Look at your rooster, look at the feathers emerging from his back, just under the back of the wing section. Those feathers are long, thin, pointy, and shiny. Now look at the other birds, Girl's feathers in...
He looks pretty big. From what I've learned with my BLRW's. He is a he... Why you ask? First, look at his leg size compared to the one behind, a lot thicker. But the easiest way to tell is the feathers on his back, a males saddle feathers are longer, pointier, and shinier. A female's feathers...
I was hoping to hold out until the October meet up but this guy is disrupting coop life. I'm in the Elsinore area and needing to rehome this BLRW Splash ASAP. He looks pretty as far as roosters go and doesn't look like he has any mix in him. Let me know if you need a rooster for your breeding...
