I live in unincorporated Washington County, with a mailing address of Beaverton (I live within the "rain shadow" of Nike...who refuses to pay city taxes hence we remain unincorporated).
While property taxes are higher, I would say that Multnomah County has us beat by far as they also tack on...
Beautiful NH! I see you are in Jefferson and raising GNH....what is GNH...a designation of New Hampshire?
Jefferson is down below Salem right?
Not this year, but maybe next I'd like to get some more really nice NH.

Since you are only in Eugene and not the Eastern Oregon deep freeze, I would not bring them inside your garage as there really isn't a need to. They need to remain acclimated to the outdoor run. You can place the coop on a low table or something so it is raised off the ground and out of...
@Corydg
Hybrid vigor is really a good thing...I like my barnyard mixes.
But don't be too afraid of Silkies...while I have only owned 2 in my chicken raising lifetime, as I focus on layer breeds, I have never had an issue with my Silkies. They do need to be able to stay out of the rain, but I...
@Corydg
x2 bantam Cochins do not have crests, ever. They look like Silkie mixes to me as well. And, definitely ask your breeder. You and she may have miscommunicated.
Also, I wouldn't leap to roosters unless someone is crowing, especially the non-barred bird.
On the barred, it is possibly a...
Thanks for sharing your experiences.
I think I've had good luck as I've gone to broody raised only. I had one *hint* of it from feed store chicks, who I put on medicated feed, which caused me to go to medicated feed as a standard. But now, a lot of the time I don't put my broody hatched...
I've wondered about that, and worried to some degree over that.
To date...either due to luck or whatever...I do not think I've ever had an outbreak of coccidiosis. I do put my young chicks on medicated chick starter to help them slowly develop an immunity, and I do practice strict bio-security...
It would depend upon your soil make up as to what would be best for you.
I have HEAVY clay soil, so I have personally chosen not to go the sand route as that mixed with my soil would be equivalent to what they sell for Ross Island concrete mix.
For the run, I do best with pine shavings...the...
Hopefully someone has been able to connect with you on this, and unfortunately that is a direction I do not go in...however, I find these website photos and descriptions really accurate and helpful in determining if you have mites/lice or examining the poo.
Be aware that you likely won't see...
In this heightened time of concern, here is a really good video of biosecurity reminders for the small backyard flock owner...brought to you by the ODA.
Be sure to try Oregon Chicken Classifieds, which is on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/groups/439498522754652/
It covers all of Oregon, and I've had good luck connecting with people through it.

Here is the latest ODA News bulletin...while restriction of poultry and poultry products have been imposed for Douglas County, to prevent possible spread, movement may be allowed by permit. Above all, these are precautions, no new cases of HPAI have been reported to date...
I live in Beaverton, OR, and I keep looking too as I think it would be fun to hatch store bought eggs...but alas Trader Joe's here doesn't....and I have not seen any in the store.
I'm pretty sure I saw some in New Season's one time, but I've not seen it in a long, long time.
Post if you find...
