I second MATT ...... Thats a great idea
That name is funny -- what it stands for too... I had no idea Maine Coons were so unique until I got one. I'd almost call them "sensitive" because they're not at all those snobby independent cats. I've had my first behavioral problem with him...
Since I posted the "lion kitty" pics earlier in this thread (page 5) to make fun of the stray Maine Coon cat when he had to get shaved by the vet -- I figured I better post updated pics so you can see how well lion kitty is doing now. You can see how spoiled he has become with his little rug...
OK, my stray cat cries a LOT. I have him on my lap and/or petting him much of the time I'm at home. But as soon as I have to do some work and can't have him on my lap he meows and meows. Does anyone have advice? Will this go away? Is this a Maine Coon trait? I thought it was just because he...
OK, finally got my pics of the stray Maine Coon processed.
Prepare to LAUGH!!!! (at his silly hair cut). No that's not a "cat wig" it's all real.
First pic is just cute:
Here's the scary part:
Now he's mad and is sticking his tongue out at me...
Truth is, he's a very lovable lap...
Thanks bearchick. Right now my little "lion" is snoozing on the chair across from me. He always wants to be in the same room with me. should be interesting. Still laughing at his haircut though. I got shampoo and he'll get his first bath tommorrow -- he's a bit smelly -- apparently they dont'...
OK, "my" cat looks SOOOOO funny with the "lion-cut" he got today at the PAWS facility!!! We can't stop laughing at him, poor little thing. He has a huge furry Maine Coon head, with a tiny little body stuck behind it. Awwww. It'll grow back, and no more matts.
Just wanted to update...
Hmmm... Yeah, I've noticed my stray Maine Coon (it's a "he" by the way) likes very much to claw. I will have to try the scratching log once he's out of sunroom. He is VERY UNinterested in the outdoors, unlike any cat I've ever met. If I leave the door open, he never goes outside. He's the type...
I think Miss Stray Coon is getting tired of me always trying to pull out her matts. She seems less willing now than at first. She likes being petted but is tired of all the pulling at her hair. She desperately wants to come out of the sunroom (meow, meow, mmeeeoowww) but I don't want her running...
She loves to be brushed and practically lays down for it as long as i'm brushing her sides and back. But as soon as it 'tugs' on her skin she hops up. All the mats require tugging as you can guess. I don't think there's any way I could do the clippers myself. I'm still waiting to hear back from...
One question: once a Maine Coon cat is clean and
de-matted -- do they leave hair all over your house? I read you have to brush them 1-2 times a week, but how much difference does that make in the amount of hair left on carpet, sofas etc.?
Also, she has her claws and clawed my sofa yesterday...
Thanks everyone, this is great info. I just finished brushing her again, I have about a gallon of fur from all the brushing, but it's just too much, I'm realizing, for me to do. I got out the scissors to cut a burr matt out of her tail and she got very annoyed by that. she won't let me touch...
This Maine Coon stray is now living in my sunroom and she's super friendly -- obviously was a housecat at one time. We couldn't find the owner (did everything like called the police, checked with neighbors etc).
I've been brushing her for hours for the past 2 days and barely making a dent in...
