    Stress does stop the shell production,But it resolves itself rather quickly. She might just have faulty plumbing and does not produce enough. This is a hard call. I wish someone else who knows more would see this and chime in.

    I fortunately have a husband who dispatches our hens in a quick and painless way -for them, I get emotional. But sometimes it is better than letting them suffer. I am very sorry this is happening to you both.

    And then again... that was the stance our rooster took before he ...um, died. I did not know what it could have been. I am thinking now maybe sour crop. Or, some genetic issue.     Does she kind of look like she is walking like a penguin? It might be internal laying. Go do a search in the box at the top of this thread, and type in 'internal laying'. Speckled hen had a girl she worked on for a while with this.

    Do you have the oyster shell mixed in with the feed or separate? I had a few soft or thin shelled eggs and mixed them together for a few months. That seemed to help. Then I just kept the two close together in the hen house so they won't forget to have some. I have one hen that just lays thin...

    That seems to be up to each individual bird. I have had a couple hiss and growl, and one actually would bite, but out of 24... that means the other 21 were still sweet.
