Cute picture. Sorry to hear they all passed. I had that happen here also. One group all passed, but two at a young age. Out of pure curiosity, what hatchery did you use?

I house mine together. For the most part they all get along. My drake likes to chase my rooster around the yard from time to time, but no harm done. The only time I separated was when they were real young because the ducklings made it too wet for chicks. But your chicks are old enough that...

They're just doing what instinct tells them

That's normal. They all vary, but a few of mine can be quite monstrous. Usually they start to relax once the chicks are over a week.

It's a gamble, but you can try it. Let her sit a while and then at night try to slowly put in the chicks. You'll definitely want day old chicks because you'll have the greatest chance for a successful bond. I did this with my hen a few months ago and she's still hanging out with her little...

They may not care for the bath part, but they usually seem to enjoy being dried with a hair dryer

There is a way to check right away (I've never tried). Something to do with their little wing feathers. Beyond that there's a good chance you'll know if you have a rooster in the mix by 8 weeks or so. Some I've noticed earlier, some later, but there are some really good eyes on this sight...

Hi neighbor I'm from the Whitewater area. If you choose buffs you will not be disappointed. I have my young nieces and nephews over and they love to hang out with my flock. I would recommend Abendroth in Waterloo or Merton Feed Mill. Merton is really good, but I've seen better sexing done...

Sounds like you have a great flock :) You're right about them being cheaper than a doctor

I've seen a slight variation. Now that mine are older I see quite a variation. Some are more solid, some darker, some lighter, some almost speckled looking.

Keep in mind there will be at least a little scuffling as they figure out the pecking order... But when they are of similar size you can introduce them. I would let them see each other without contact for a while first. Then you have two options. You can either let them go together during...
