I was going to get another BO roo, but came across an ad for a blue cochin roo who needed a home. So....now we have this ridiculously massive bird that looks like he's wearing jeans lol.
My favorite of the girls is still a BO. She's gonna be a great momma someday (I hope)
My beautiful, gentle, perfect BO roo Skipper died suddenly a few days ago. Everyone is really bummed and the girls are in an uproar. Now starts the hunt for a new flock rooster.
He'll probably retire to a life as a house rooster lol. He spent all evening laying on my lap under a blanket. He acted like he had found his rightful place in life.
Our boy was a hero today. I heard a terrible fuss out in the coop, so I ran outside....only to see the latch on the run open, Skipper outside in the yard with blood all over the back of his neck, and a raccoon screaming its way across the street. So I grabbed him, checked the girls (they're...
One of my girls is pretty thin at a year old....and she's an absolute pig when it comes to food. She's probably the most energetic of our birds, too. I blame the hatchery lol.
Mine is the same way. He loves being fussed over. We do have one hen that's friendlier than him, but only because she follows my every step lol. He's calmer being held (by me), though.
Oh for sure. He's still gorgeous (in our opinion lol) and he's still pretty much an angel in bird skin lol. He got to chat with my mom over the phone yesterday and he was pretty excited about it. He loves interrupting my conversations. Hopped right up on my lap, got up against the phone, and...
I'm pretty bummed....my beautiful boy, Skipper, lost the spikes on his comb to frostbite earlier in the winter (I was putting vaseline on it, but there was a ridiculous sudden cold snap that I guess was too much). He doesn't seem to mind, though, since it's gotten him a world of extra...
Everyone suddenly started squawking, so I ran outside to see what was up.....and there it was, golden lights shining and choir singing (imagined, of course).
Well, our Orpingtons are 20 weeks old now. Only 2 ended up being pullets, and we decided to keep one cockerel. He's pretty gentle with the girls (despite raging hormones haha). Now, we're just waiting on eggs
