Alright - how do you get your animals to stay still long enough to take these photos? Every time I try to get photos of my animals they won't stay still long enough except for the dog who will stay on command but you can't tell chickens to stay.

I'm in to photography, no expert by any means, but your photo is really good. Lots of colorful contrast between the green, the blue and then the golden. Great composition. Need to enter it into something that features chickens. Make a great calendar photo.

Pleaassee! I would think it was evident that you can't possibly vaccinate for every disease chickens, or humans for that matter, might get. Being a retired RN/NP I know the possibilities of mutated viruses and bacteria and I also know of the diseases you brought up and some more that have...

Been raising chickens for over 50 years (I'm old). Was taught when I was on the farm to raise chicks this way to avoid cold drafts, etc. We raised White Leghorns for egg selling and meat. Always had a huge flock and really healthy, and large, birds. It is too arid where I live for cocci...

Never had any problems with growth and the outside area and coop are disinfected regularly. As far as sunshine, we have out here what is called a swamp cooler or evaporative cooler which is nothing more than a vented box on the roof that blows air into the house through wetted pads. The...

Am I weird? I don't put any of my chicks outside until they are at least 12 weeks old and clucking, not peeping. I keep them in our spare bedroom in an enclosure my husband made that is 4 feet wide and 6 feet long with a solid floor and chicken wire that goes up about 5 feet. The sides are...

The tail feathers are sycle shaped even at this young age - would go with a roo - saddle feathers are also longer.

She has no parasites and her feather loss started with the rooster riding her back. While the other one is a product of the same thing (rooster riding) she didn't go as bald as the other one and her feathers are growing back in. Only one chicken out of 15 has this problem. Don't think it's...

I have 2 BOs that are missing feathers. One is missing feathers on her back but there seems to be some coming in. The other one is a total mess. Not only feathers missing on her back but she has broken wing feathers, partly bare neck and only a few tail feathers as well as her pretty fluffy...

Your last picture is the spitting image of my 2 BOs and 2 RSLs. If I didn't know better I would have thought these were pictures of my youngest pullets.

I have RSLs and their coloring is exactly the same - red and buff and white tipped feathers. Somebody at TSC don't know their chickens. The RSLs are sometimes called Golden Buffs. Need to educate your local TSC.

Do any of you think that chickens respond to baby talk? If not then I need to rethink my vocal nuances, but if you think they do respond to a certain pitch then I can continue to be the idiot I am with my chickens. I do know they know my voice and recognize me. Any thoughts from you chicken...

I have 9 BOs, 5 one year olds, 2 eighteen weeks, 2 thirteen weeks. Out of all of them I have one that is really a darker brown. All the others are the typical buff colored except one. Colored more like the rooster. More brown than buff. Any ideas why the extreme difference in the coloring?

Update on my rooster that didn't know how to act toward the girls. After pulling him off the girls repeatedly and then quarantined him for about two weeks with me going in there every day and holding him, I am happy to announce that his aggressive attitude toward the older girls has changed...

Well, so far when he's attacking my hens I have yanked him off and held him upside down and let him sqawk then I held him and let him settle down. He is very docile with me and even goes to sleep sometimes. He doesn't struggle so I pet him and talk to him. He's in a small area so I go and sit...

Have a question about roosters. I bought 6 chicks 17 weeks ago, 2 BO's and 3 BSLs. Got a roo in the bunch. He is very aggressive toward my older hens and jumps on them repeatedly without even a thank you mam, may I. He is traumatizing my hens so I quarantined him. My question is will he...

Well, I finally made it back. Never did get the number of that diesel truck that hit me. I'm doing pretty good but earlier thought I'd never get back to normal. Not 100% yet but getting there. Got 3 sets of chickens to take care of. Put the 13 week chickens out in half the coop outside and...

The feed store knows me very well and trusts me since I know more about chickens than they do. They won't do it for anyone else but since I brought them back within 2 hours of purchase and they know I wouldn't expose them to anything.
