My Welsummer was sitting on 6 Naked Neck and 6 Plymouth Rock bantam eggs - she could have sat on about 18 bantam eggs if that's all I had. My other Welsummer is currently on 12 large fowl eggs, she covers them no trouble.

Good work I've candled some eggs I've thought were not developing, but I've put them back under the hen just in case. I can't see any harm in doing it. Wow, loved the video

I kind of position my fingers on my left hand in behind their head to control it and grab the eggs out with my right hand to avoid being bitten.

Adorable! I've noticed that when hatch day is close. my broodies get a LOT more protective of the eggs. My Welsummers and Speckled Sussex have gone broody a few times before I've let the Wellies actually sit and hatch, all are over a year old now but I guess they were around 9 months old...

Gosh you should see one of my Welsummers - she's taken puffiness to the extreme and nearly takes up the whole nest box!

Try not to worry too much PortlandHen. She may be getting of the nest for a quick bite to eat, quick drink, relive herself and get back on the nest without you seeing it. I currently have two Welsummers on eggs (my first time also) at the moment and they spend pretty much all day on the nests...

    Broody Hen Thread!

I'm hatching my first eggs under my broody Welsummer. It's so exciting; she's on 6 turkens and 6 silver pencilled plymouth rock bantams and we are nearly 5 days in. My dilemma is that right now I'm using my only dog crate for a sick Dorking so I don't have anything to separate her from my...
