How long will eggs that are a week before hatching stay viable without the hen sitting on them. My silkie got off of her three eggs for about 8 hours she switched nests. I just placed her back on the original eggs but I'm worried that they won't hatch because of how long she has been off.
I was wondering. If I have a broody and she has chicks under her how long would you wait to let her and the chicks outside. I don't want any. To get hurt or die so I'm keeping them inside in a large cardboard box. I plan to wait until they are about 2 weeks old and have some feathers.

At the moment she is still in the do kennel and last I checked she was sitting on the golf balls but didn't have that broody look to her. Like laying flat and spreading over the eggs. But maybe she will snap back into it since she is in a dark area with eggs

Ok so I might have worded it wrong the chicks from the hatchery get here April 15. But if I let my chicken sit on eggs they won't hatch until a week after my hatchery chicks arrive.
Ok so I'm in a little Delimma here. I have a broody that wants to sit. Earlier I wouldn't have cared if she sat on the eggs, but I have already ordered some chicks from an online hatchery. And if she sits on the eggs they won't hatch until a week after my chicks are supposed to arrive from the...
