Mamma teaching the peeps to come out and eat!
Congratulations Casey too BTW!!
Here are 4 of the 6. I think she hatched 3 Wyandottes, a Cuckoo Muran, a Welsummer and a California White!
Thanks Micro, I am fairly sure all the eggs should hatch around the same time. We were advised to remove any that were layed after that and marked them all with an X . I guess I just wondered... if one doesn't make it, will she continue to sit on it? or will she instinctively realise it is dead...
How long will she continue to sit on the nest? I want to check to see if they all hatched but also don't want to disturb her as she's been quite 'flighty' through this whole hatching process.
Came home from a lovely thanksgiving day out to find one egg pipped and one cheeping at me under the hen. She went off for a drink and a poop this evening and now its only a matter of time!
I am having a similar problem with a RIR. She was getting very broody so I dunked her in water to snap her out of it, and it has resulted in this half-broodyness!! She will sit in a nest box till I kick her out, and then run off and be a normal hen again, roosts at night with everyone else. But...
So due to Misses Welsummer going broody, We now have three other hens who decide they want to sit in the nest boxes all day. Unfortunately we don't have the facility to let them all hatch eggs so close to winter so we have to keep putting them back outside. But this meme inspired me
I'm worried about putting her out during the day with the other chickens incase it 'breaks' her broodyness, so I only let her out at night to have a poop, stretch her legs around the garage, she runs over to the food bowl and goes mad, but doesn't touch the water. hmm and yes 40f outside, not...
So I have brought my broody in the garage to sit on some eggs. Stupid question but does she need a heat lamp as it's now just her and temps at night are low 40's. I put the heat lamp on lat two nights, but now I'm thinking that's a stupid idea as she IS the heat lamp. Shes in a 12x12 nest box...
