Well, my chick hatched under the second broody. I brought her in as the broody wasn't trying to take care of it. Another hen came over and pecked her once, and I snatched her up really fast. She is inside in her brooder keeping warm and drying off. Still 8 days until her chicks hatch.
So i have two broody blrw's. Each in their own closed off area, separate from the flock. Well big mama hatched her chicks and proceeded to kill them today while i was out. I put the last egg under big red, but her eggs are atleast a week-10 days behind. Hopefully i can grab that last chick...
Hi, I have a broody blrw, and I am having turkey eggs shipped in for her to set on. Is there anything I need to do with the eggs before I set them with her?
I think I'll do that, I can fence part of their yard off, just mama and the babies. It will give them much more room, and get them all used to each other at the same time. Thanks so much! But first I have to finish canning my tomatoes, then the apples. So probably tomorrow at the earliest...
Hi everyone, I have a question. As I'm a noob at this, I really don't know how to handle it. My broody hatched out 6 chicks. They will be one week tomorrow. Mama and babies are in a separate part of the coop form the rest of the flock. As long as the ground is dry and its warm, I put mama...
Wishing you well for your hatch. We had one more hatch in the night, so I'm up to 6 of the 9 eggs set. The others there are no visible cracks that I can see, so I'm gonna give them another day or 2 and see what happens.

5 out of 9 so far have hatched. Well I should say 5 have come out from mamma. Mamma hasn't moved yet, it's so hot the chicks are moving out from under her and chirping up a storm. 2 black, 1 chip monk stripped, 1 yellow and 1 light brown yellow. Guessing just a barnyard mix. The guy I got...
I've got 3 eggs that have holes in them this morning. I didn't want to move any when momma got off the eggs, but I can see 3 holes in 3 different eggs. And I can hear a lot of chirping. Getting excited now! First time mamma here, and shes only 8 months old, so we shall see how things go over...
Thank you, she has food and water, but won't eat it, that's why I was taking her off, she does eat outside, but I hadn't seen her actually leave herself. Is eating once a day enough for her? I'll watch her more tomorrow, see if I can catch her, thanks!
Mine is 8 months and was broody for 2 weeks before I put eggs under her. She now is on day 11 sitting on 9 eggs. I do have her separated in the coop as I had others laying eggs in her nest and those are not fertile, no rooster here. And I forgot to mark the fertile ones so I will candle one...
