15! That is very impressive!!
My grafted babies are almost 2 weeks old and mama took them outside today for the first time. It has been pouring rain all week or I would have let them out sooner. They did great. Mama hen got in a fight with the next in command - #2 hen just went after the mama...
Update on my grafted babies - they are a week old and I've opened their pen so they can go out to meet the adult hens. Mama is the top of the pecking order and they don't seem to be interested in the babies at all which is great. They are thriving! As soon as they are feathered more (another...
She's eating a ton of it like she hasn't eaten much in 2 weeks, so I'm guessing it's ok. Poops have gone back to normal (from the broody watery mess) as well.
I do have a question though - is it ok for her to just eat the chicks' starter crumbles for now? She's not going to be laying for a while yet I assume. I don't know how to feed her adult food without the littles getting into it.
It took my GLW overnight to accept her new nest after I moved her. I should have waited until dark but I didn't - and she was really upset. I moved the new nesting box to be the same north-east-south-west orientation and roughly just "north" of the previous site and she accepted that.
She was...
Well, I *think* the grafting went ok tonight! I gave her two because I didn't want there to be too few in my brooder for them to keep warm. It's a pretty big brooder.
Anyway she barely even noticed at first. I slipped one under each wing and they just stopped peeping and stayed in there. She...
Hey all - my chicks are coming tomorrow - should I attempt to graft them to my broody tomorrow night or should I wait a full day after I get them? I kind of want to make sure they are healthy, eating, drinking, no pasties. Will an extra day make it harder to graft them?
Eeeeeeee I'm so...
You all weren't kidding about the broody poops. She still won't eat unless I take her off the nest and put her outside with food. Finally after about 4 days - yeah the worst chicken poop of all time lol.
4 days until my chicks come. She will have been broody about 2 weeks. I hope that's enough...
Wvduck- that is what I did with mine. She was really mad for the first afternoon but has since settled in.
Ladycluck- this is very exciting!! I'm doing the same next week. I decided I need a night vision game camera to watch them! ;)
Yeah she is super determined! She has been trying to go broody since February but I broke her each time. This time she was not taking no for an answer.
So I haven't seen any poops in her pen except the first day she was in there - yesterday I took her outside away from the eggs and gave her...
Thank you for this! I have my first broody - she's not even setting real eggs, but wood ones because I'm putting chicks under her next week. But I'm worried about her. Not sure she ate or drank anything at all today. Doesn't want her favorite treats. Any tips on encouraging her to drink and...
