That reminded me of a quote I heard a long time ago- IDK who said it but here it is: "If you aren't happy with what you have, then you won't be happy with more." I like your quote too!

My Mom says that back when she was a kid her mother would boil all the clothes once a week- of course they used soap as well. Everything was hung out in the sun.

I have read MANY people complaining about their HE washers (front loading) causing their clothes to smell bad. Here is one article you may find interesting: http://www.today.com/news/your-washing-machine-growing-hidden-mold-6C10671363 http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf95006865.tip.html here are a...

Zote works fine but FN is a higher quality laundry soap IMO. I use both on occasion- I particularly like to hand scrub new stains with a bar of soap as a prewash. I don't make my laundry detergent anymore but I did try it for awhile. I buy the costco bucket kirkland brand. So yes I would...

Oh this photo is absolutely lovely! Wonderful- they are organic? I would imagine. (Organic lemons are oh so expensive. Even if they aren't organic that is still fabulous. I always get a thrill out of home produce since it is also usually organic which would have cost even more to buy.) How...

That is inspiring that you give the gift of Thanksgiving dinner- how it must seem to them that someone cares enough and loves them enough to help them. That pasta sauce was a good bargain especially! That will be a lot of meals and pasta is already inexpensive too. I buy pasta at the dollar...

Nice! I have been buying yogurt at Grocery Outlet. Also cheese and turkey bacon for much less than the regular grocery store. I try to shop there first because they don't have all the same things every week.

Yes after milk has been frozen there is some fat floating on top but it doesn't seem too bad once you get used to it. We don't freeze milk anymore because my kids find that yucky. We recently froze cream and thawed it to make ice cream. The ice cream was grainy.

This is inspiring. I buy avocados almost every week, 2 for $1 at Groc. Outlet. They are small avocados. Sometimes I get the huge ones at Costco if I need a whole bag of them. Maybe the larger ones would be better to grow?? Does your 6 foot tall one grow any avocados on it?

For sprouting the Clementines did you have to refrigerate or scratch the seed in any way? I have been wanting to grow a little avocado plant from seed too, just for fun.

Yes, organic food is non-GMO, unless contaminated (i.e. wind blew in some seeds that were GMO). However, there has been a controversy lately where some food items that were supposed to be organic had some GMO in them, and thus some organic brands are better than others I hear. I buy organic...

We have a roku too and don't have satellite anymore (dish). We also subscribe to Netflix, which we access on the roku. Also amazon's streaming and hulu. We are still saving money, even with 3 subscriptions!

What I did this year with our apples was to bake them in the oven after quartering them and sprinkling cinnamon and sugar over them (just a little). I covered with tin foil and baked for a couple of hours on 350 degrees. Then I packaged them in those disposable tupperware containers that I...

I have used my Kitchen Aid grater attachment for grating soap too, and take it outside if possible since it produces a HUGE amount of dust. My favorite soap is Fels-Naptha for making my laundry detergent - but I have quit making it lately. I used to make it like this: one cup borax, one cup...

There is a soap called zote soap that I have tried. It is very good- I bought it at Walmart a few years ago. It is OK for dishes as far as I know. http://www.zote.com.mx/english/fre_as.htm Also Octagon is OK for dishes as far as I know...
