Here is the end of my legbar flock, and only half cream legbar at that! I re-homed my entire flock, but kept this cross fella. The mother was a full cream legbar hen, daddy was a splash bantam cochin!
He is going to make a fine Yard Master! I think he is rather cool looking.
Don't jinx it! :D
I'm about to set a batch, with some call duck eggs. I'm also going to set a few eggs from 3 of my CL girls that run around with a CL rooster AND a splash bantam cochin rooster. The CL guy tries to keep the cochin off the girls, but I've seen them be successful. I just have...
I just got my first olive egg this morning, from a CLxBCM cross pullet. My CL pullets mostly lay very blue eggs, one lays slightly blue-green tinted. The olive is a beautiful addition!
Interesting theory. I have 5 CL pullets. 4 lay lovely light blue eggs. All blue in my mind, but pale. The other girl lays with a more greenish hue. Her eggs are also smaller at this point. I might try putting some in a ziploc bag and compare to ones sitting on the counter after a few days...
Got my first CL egg yesterday. :wee
Today when I came home, I see another egg in the box, but there is also a pullet in the box with it. Hope it’s another layer. Lol
With a BCM egg. (Also new layers)
These 4 all hatched at the same time. One is still very pale and small in the comb and wattles. I suspect the faster developing ones are the ones that the rooster has his way with. :D
I’m going to try to observe the mating activity.
I always have a few seramas lose them, and my OEGB guys, but oddly the bantam cochins rarely lose them. This will be my first winter with BCMs and the CLs. My BCMs comb is huge too.
He comes from good stock. :D
I really like how his coloring is developing. I’m hoping he grows into the comb a bit. Do you lose any combs to frostbite?
So my CL group is now 18 weeks old. I’m a little worried about my cockerel. Is it normal to have such a huge and floppy comb? I didn’t think they got so large! He shakes his head a lot, like he is trying to get it out of his way.
I’m also working on new nest boxes for the girls. Should I expect...
