Yes, I like (truly) blue eggs. I actually got legbars to get some gene diversity in my (not SOP) Araucanas. I am still looking for a (truly) blue egg from my legbars.
I have read and reread all of the posts about melanizers, genes for creams, recessive this and that, and I will be honest, I can't follow all of that.....ig/eg and bb/br stuff, gives me a migraine. I do understand barring genes, blue egg genes and autosexing genes. So, I guess what I am saying...
His back appears to be gently sloped and reasonably long. His tail is higher set than I like, but better than his sire. His breeder said the father had one gene for cream, so maybe that will keep his chestnut under control? Crossing fingers for this.
My eggs from the first hen were green. All 3 are laying now, one of them is more blue than green. I was looking at the cockerel this morning, he doesn't have much chestnut yet. His chest is a nice charcoal at this time. Two of his tail feathers are barred, but the rest are not. I suspect when he...
I have a CL/brown leghorn cockerel that I am going to use over my CL hens this year. (Until I can get another CL rooster). I wondered if using the leghorn cross rooster would help with the green egg problem.
Thank you! Thank you! I have got to figure out how to attach my computer to my phone Wi-Fi just so I can see my badges. Thank you to whomever nominated me !
I just realized today that I have culled all my Cuckoo Marams hens that quit laying last fall. The one I have left has a bowl shaped outline, nice tail set. The other three were "U" shaped with squirrel tails.......
I think the 'bowl' shape thought came from a heritage thread I follow. But, I couldn't think of a better way to say what I saw. The thought on the heritage breed thread was that production was compromised when the underline started looking 'steep'.
