Please do not use this boy. In addition to WAY too much chestnut his neck barring is a mess as best I can tell from this shot. The left boy has good type, a good long back, nice tail angle, good leg color, decent barring, I think good earlobe color, and decent feather coloring. Can't really...

If you have a wire cage you can put them in that and take a picture from outside the cage. That would be better than holding them for the photo, hard to tell body type and stance when they are held. The reason why you don't want a large crest is because males are supposed to have a straight...

I actually find them quite curious and nosy. Much better than my psycho Ameraucanas!

VERY interesting. By chestnut everywhere do you mean they have heavy chestnut or that almost all offspring have it?

May have been @GaryDean26 I posted a picture of a hen with a masculine face and large comb and mentioned I would not be breeding her and he was telling me about a similar case he had. Going to put this one in a quarantine pen in a week or two and see if she is laying. If so she will be sold as...

Yes he has a small crest. I know because it look almost exactly like my Hugger, and crossed with white leghorns (no crest) I got crested offspring. Cutie! Yes she is gold on the neck, but hopefully you get pretty blue eggs from her! Consensus seems to be average point of lay is 24 weeks...

I think he's just saying of the odds are there (for example, breeding crested to uncrested or gold to cream) you can't force the split to shift one way or another.

WIthout hatching a minimum of 100 chicks from a single hen it is hard to say whether it is just an unlucky happenstance or a hen tendency.

Here are some pics of my birds from today. You can see notes I made on each on my facebook album, https://www.facebook.com/rinda.myers/media_set?set=a.10204515082455016.1073741841.1171519332&type=1 I made it public so anyone with a FB page can see it. Don't really have the time or inclination...

It was I who mentioned the tetracycline. While treating with tetracycline all eggs laid during that period hatched and thrived. After I stopped the antibiotic (two week course) I went right back to losing chicks. It was knocking the infection down but not eliminating it, I needed something...

Have you tried treating your breeders with a round of tetracycline? This could be a yolk sac infection problem. I had a simlar problem with my Isbars last year, they would hatch and all die at 3-4 weeks of age. Turned out it was a specific strain of e coli present in my hens (both raised...

They are still young to make a final decision on comb. Sometimes they "grow into it" and it straightens out, and sometimes not. Also the combs will keep growing until they are about 15-18 months old- so a straight comb now doesn't mean a straight comb at maturity.

If I'm remembering right he was from a hatch in February, maybe early March. So he's about 6 months old. Here he is at about 4 months old: When I posted these on facebook someone asked if he was cow-hocked (knock kneed). That's why I posted the pen picture that is very dark- you can...

I actually find that the tail angles tend to get higher as they mature, in my limited experience. Eta you are shooting for a 45° tail angle according to the British standard and proposed us standard.

Some updated pics of my keeper boy- best of all the boys I kept from my 2014 breedings. His tail was plucked by a dog when he got out of his pen so I can't show it off, but it was nice! I included a rear shot so you can see the width of his body and his wide leg set. I will try to get a...

I'm glad to hear it! I actually found a local friend with a mature quad of Spitzhaubens that she decided she was ready to part with. I also picked up a few eggs from a breeder at a big poultry show a few hours away and have two nice cockerels from them, one is in with the ladies right now. I...

Yep. My first shipment of Rees chicks arrived the week we had several days with a HIGH of only 80 degrees in mid July- I think we broke a record this summer of low-highs! But Jenny was afraid to put in a heat pack because of the heat in Florida and Georgia where the chicks route through coming...
