Does it have holes in it. Maybe you could plug those.(it will change the temp) It could be blowing out the humidity with the fan. Also how deep is your water bowl? Surface area affects the amount of humidity. If it is running dry a deeper container may help and reduce the time it is open while...

Hope they hatch out for you. I like to help them but it seems that it makes weaker chicks that die later.

And I don't have the best incubator steady and right temp is not as precise as a nice cabinet. But they were left alone during lock down days and candled well on day 17.

I opened LATE day 21 then again in the morning. Added water both times but was worried due to the low humidity on days 18-21. Thinking day 23 (tomorrow) if I candle and help it may be weak but, probably would've died if I hadn't. My last batch a hen set I found 2 eggs that didn't make it but she...

Thanks. I've been letting them peek out and start. I did quarter of 1 side open the shells if they peeked a hole and later it didn't change or take a half off of a couple that looked "shrink wrapped" I guess.

DM Rippy and all others who may have an answer. My eggs and incubator seemed good all the way up to day 18. 40% humidity on average. Added water b4 lockdown for the 1st time only got it up to 46% Last night I had 2 this morning 2 more and 3 started outta 36. How much and when should I help if...

Why would a chick just fall over dead? I was just outside by the brooder pen. It just has a hen and the chicks she hatched out 8 days ago. She sounded a little freaked when I turned around their was a chick completely lifeless. She hovered around it and tried to get it up but it was gone. I...

I think it'd be easier to just let it go now vs try and extra care with lots of extra time then more extra care and ending in a loss anyway. No eyes and cross beak isn't a good start. Sorry about the bad chick. Glad the others are doing well even if late.

They make temp swithches for shutting off at certain degrees. Usually used for heat lamps under a house in winter or heat trace that wraps around the pipes. But you could plug anything into it you want. Some are as simple as a plug in. You plug it into your 110 outlet then plug your light into it.

Sorry didn't mean to hit this quote. Atwoods Orschelyns, TSC is where I got my digital hygrometer/thermomter. A non digital I'd check out the local feed store. If they don't have it they "should be able to direct you in the right direction. That's the non internet way. All I know is non...

Orschelyn's is where I got mine. TSC, Atwoods same thing. Even Wal-Mart carries nice digital hydrometer/thermometer for under $20. They have a little cord that allows it to fit through a window/bator. Mine goes through a vent hole on the bottom. No need to open the bator.

I've been tinkering with an old Incubator I bought at an auction. Just to make sure it would work when I need it and be at the right temp and humidity. I almost freaked out earlier when it read 78 degrees. Then I remembered I unplugged it this morning. ha
