I wouldn't worry about the high humidty at the beginning. Eggs/chicks are way more resilient than we give them credit. (Sorry, I was away from the computer most of the evening painting - this remodel is going to be the death of me!). A week into my current hatch, the workers blew a circuit...

Put a dish of dry rice in the incubator, it will absorb some of the humidity. You can just change it for fresh, dry rice as needed. Deb

Donna, the AM eggs you sent to me marked "B". Were those blacks? I have two of them pipped and a lav/split pipped. Four of the 8 eggs made it to lockdown, they are due today. So far this morning, I've had two lakenvelders and a marans hatch. With a total of 12 eggs locked down (and one...

Quote cluck-cluck Yah, I'm obsessing over these since they were expensive and had damaged air sacks. The last batch didn't grow at all due to same problem. USPS can be awfully rough! I really want these two to make it! Sorry, as I told you on the TJ thread, I've really struggled with...

I locked down some Iowa Blue, Ameraucana, Lakenvelder and one Marans last night. And I'm still getting ready for the contractor to demolish my kitchen starting tomorrow. He dropped off his tools today and had a GIANT dumpster delivered. They start tomorrow at 7:45 am. I need to go clean out...

My normal routine with eggs that don't hatch is to hold them up to my ear and tap on them with my fingernail. Then I recandle, then I float test them. If I still have nothing, I pip open the end of the egg and look inside with a flashflight, then open the egg and see what happened. A couple...

I will, if they ever start laying! I have three girls in that pen currently and 2 more young pullets coming along. That pen is now 6 mos old, so they should start any time. Once the eggs have increased from pullet size and I've checked fertility, I will have some available. Send me a PM and...

Well, I'm not an expert, but I know that blue shells are dominant to white, but you need the brown to overlay the shell for the olive. My main point in replying is I've looking for white leghorn girls for a breeding project. Too bad you're so far away! Deb
