I would only hand out pink cigars until I was proven wrong Just finished my 5th hatch in the Octagon 20. Man, I love this machine. 20/22 cuckoo marans. Washed it down this morning, letting it dry while I'm at work, and setting 2 dozen WCBP tonight. I think I need an intervention

My wife is awesome. We have taken this entire chicken journey together, and she enjoys it as much as I do. She loves hatching and brooding the babies and landscaping around the coops. As long as I build the housing, the sky is the limit on chickens. I think we both need help

I said I couldn't build coops either, then I just started banging boards together until they resembled a coop. I'm actually pretty good at it now. That's when you really start getting in trouble. The only thing missing in my back yard now is a carousel

I've been hearing a lot about you. I'm thinking my next coop is going to be for your BCMs

Chicken math is awesome. 6 years ago I had 4 BO pullets. Currently I have 70 in the pens, 18 eggs under broody silkies and d'uccles, 22 cuckoo marans eggs going into lockdown Friday, and I'm picking up those new BCMs Saturday. I remember saying last April "No more coops"

Easter Eggers don't count, because they were purchased as Ameraucanas, therefore not a real chicken. Polish don't count because you can't see the hens eyes. Cuckoo Marans don't count because most people think they are barred rocks. D'uccle don't count because Jean Claude VanDamme was from...

Roosters don't count, so you can subtract those. The silkie formula is every 3 hens equals one chicken, so you should be good

That would drive me insane, as well. It's bad enough that there are so many people re-selling hatchery chicks on there, but if I saw my chicks being sold like that I would lose my mind. The worst thing that has happened to me like that was getting a call asking for fertile eggs. I don't even...

I sell faster than I can hatch on Craigslist. People are waiting this time of year. I sell day olds, and if they don't sell in the first few weeks I keep them until they are old enough to sex and sell started pullets and roosters. Tip on the roosters: Find a few customers that will buy many...

Which Brinsea are you using? I have the Octagon 20 Advance, and absolutely love it, but I'm debating getting something larger. I just have so many fertile eggs going to waste while the Brinsea is locked up for 3 weeks. I would love the have another 20, but it's not in the budget right now. I've...

My Brinsea was hatching a day late. I went up 0.5 degrees and had my best hatch ever, all but one on day 21

I have never seen that mix. Do you have any pics? Are their eggs as dark as the black copper?

Most of my eggs were 7 days or less, but I was trying to run a full load for the first run, and my Polish aren't laying much, so I held those a little longer. I planned this hatch better, and loaded it mostly with 1 week maran eggs. I'm just going to wait and put in more Polish when they start...

I think I'm counting right. The day they are set is zero, so if I set on a Friday, day 21 will be on a Friday, correct? I'm using a Brinsea Octagon 20, so I'm pretty confident in the parameters. I think my delayed hatch came from older eggs. I collecte them for 2 weeks before setting, and didn't...

I'm also experiencing a much higher instance of problems in chicks hatched day 22 or later. It may be cold hearted, but I'm thinking I may start cleaning up on day 22
