    Even when you incubate in an upright position, you are supposed to lay the eggs on their side at lockdown with the air cell up. That is what I always do. That is supposed to give the chick time to get in the correct hatching position. (not that all do.)

    Adorable chicks! I have the Octagon 20 advance and have used the cooling option for all my hatches with no problem so I doubt that is it. Is there any way your eggs rolled or turned so that the chick was in the wrong position and couldn't right itself for hatching? I know the last few days...

    I haven't ordered the evaporation pads from Brinsea, but what has worked well for me is that I got some small plastic containers about the size of one ice cibe from the dollar store ( 12 for $1.00). Then I cut a sponge and put one in a cube, wet it, and add several to my incubator at lockdown...
