    ^^^ On the other had there are people here who do everything right but they get poor quality productions hens from a feed store that go bald when they molt. I guess it depends on your definition of "stress".

    Yes, the combs get smaller, look dried out and sometimes pale during a molt. I oil them when its cold, hoping it hens protect them from frostbite, but even if it doesn't it makes them look a little less pathetic. If your hens hatched in April they might not molt this season. Our 2012 hatch...

    I have seen chickens molt but until Pinky Pie's molt never like this! And she is just 7 months old. Of course it started during the coldest time of the year. Very helpful thread. Great photos.
