3rd Annual New Year's Day Hatch!!

I don't think they're motley! I might be biased as most of my hatch were ?x? I do know there was a silkie x Am mom who laid green eggs, so I have crests, muffs and extra toes; I think they have character! I wouldn't dare make a guess on gender, but you'll find out soon I'm sure ( I had my...

Poor thing, if you're dealing with swelling, wouldn't cold to reduce it better than heat? So many chick problems are just such a mystery; it's very frustrating. Edit to fix idiocy

Oh oh, am I gonna be drummed out of BYC for mistaking a duck for a chicken?

What a great picture, I'll bet those chickens learned real quick to avoid the hooves. My chickens have just discovered that if they cross the road (my driveway, really) there are great piles of waste hay with sheep poop and the occasional cow pattie; they think they've found heaven. lol

Wait... we're not supposed to keep the chicks we hatched? Oh boy, I just had a builder up here this week to see about enclosing my pole barn and turning it into a gigantic chicken barn.

3rd Annual New Year's Day Hatch!!

OK, I have a confession. Despite the fact that over the past month I've spent countless hours staring at inert eggs in the bator without being in the least bored, I'm now finding that I think chickies are boring (heresy, I know). They eat, sleep and poop and occasionally have a mass panic...

Quote: lol If you are awful for that thought, so am I. My dogs are good with chickens that are walking or running, but let the wings start flapping and OMG watch out chickies! Do you have a photo to look at and recount?

Dingo and Blarnyeggs, I'm so sorry about your little chicks. You did/doing your very best for them and that is something to take comfort in. Sending lots of hugs!

Quote: Dingo, try and get the chick to drink. Blood loss means a loss of blood volume and red cells for oxygenation, ergo try to increase volume by offering water frequently. Adding sugar for quick calories as SCG suggested is good too. Can't speed up red cell replacement, but replacing...

Thanks Blarneyeggs, he's 4 and a bit petite for his age, but mostly I think it's a matter of perspective, the chick is little. Runswithscissors, that is so disappointing, sending

I hope it's OK to post this photo of grandson getting to know the new chicks. Also wanted to brag a bit. His Mom was running a 24 hour race (9am New Years Eve to 9am New Years Day) and she won women's division with 100.6 miles,
