yes it's a flat sheet and yes I scraped my knuckles when I ziptied it to the kennel, but it was NOTHING compared to demon wire injuries. Good idea for screens.
Well, if we can't laugh at ourselves...
Such an adorable coop, however(unsolicited advice ahead ) like Vehve said, you will be much happier when it comes time to clean if it is outside the run. If it can even be moved at this point. Run space when you need to work on coop will be at a premium...
Keep watching the chickens.
aww sorry about that.
demon wire perfect name for that stuff, I try not to use it
I use construction lath instead. It comes in 2x8 sheets but it doesn't bend. I ziptied it to my kennel wire. It's thicker nothing can get through it.
Welcome to the experience! You are going to love it!
Don't forget the number one rule you always need more space than you think.
To answer your questions:
1. yes some part of run should be covered if not all. It's nice to have some shade too. I started with just a hawk net over a 10x10x6 dog...
I use the horizontal nipples in a 5 gal bucket. Yes, they can and do leak if not installed tightly and correctly, but there is no huge spillage like when an open waterer gets dumped. I put a heating element in for winter and no frozen water.
Holy cow. 700 posts behind. Awesome looking coops.
@WthrLady I am so in love with the teal color.
@TJordan as for raising a nice roo - my 2 cents: I think it's hit or miss. We culled our first roo. A bantam Sebright that would attack me and my daughter at every turn. I tried everything...
Popped out a 6x12 ventilation hole door at roof line of coop today. Hardware cloth with cold air return register over that (dh's idea and since he stood out in the cold, I went with it). It is hinged from inside if needed to close back up.
Look at all the room you have for them. I don't get jealous usually, but woah. No wonder you have room for that brooder, mine was in the living room. Not doing that again.
I second the crib/brooder idea as I did the pack and play. Yuck. It has no real support underneath and really no way to fix that, so the feeder and waterer were always tipping over whenever someone would get in a frenzy as older chicks do. Such a mess. I then switched to a lined watermelon box...
13?
It's funny when we think we know who the boss is and we are totally wrong. Flock dynamics are fascinating. My big mouth always chose the lowest rung too. LOL If your hubby changes the ladder setup I definitely want to see it.
Only 2 of the girls would use the ladder and it was at the very top or the last rung. It took up valuable space so I removed it. It's a great idea if you have room and they want to use it. Mine just didn't. I like the idea of clamps and boards across it though.
