Chickens for 10-20 years or more? Pull up a rockin' chair and lay some wisdom on us!

Pedigree in the States is really cheap dog food and poor quality. Pedigree canned in Great Britain is good quality food. I don't know what pedigree in Australia would be.

There are some serious contagious chicken diseases with respiratory and sneezing issues. I'd cull all the new birds before I let them have any contact with my existing flock. Perhaps if there is an avian vet in the area, you should consult.

If I wanted a sustainable flock of chickens (which I don't) I wouldn't mess around with dual purpose birds. They provide meat and eggs but don't do either job very well. Here is what I would do: Figure out how many eggs I would need and get that many hens of a breed that lays like the dickens...

[[[.....How do we attract crows?....]]]] I don't want crows. They will kill baby chicks and steal eggs. They steal fruit from the trees and raid the veggie garden. It's easier to protect the poultry than it is to net all the trees and cover the entire vegetable garden. Not to mention, they...

Then blood, feathers, guts, feet, and heads are all removed from the property so that predators are not attracted. However, I've got to tell you that reinforcing your pens so that the stray dogs...

[[[[[........I should wait until spring to get more hens .............. It was suggested I get older birds to integrate into the group.....]]]]] Since you are in Georgia, what I would do would be to buy sexed pullet chicks right now. Once they are feathered, they can go outside. In winter, I...

Chickens for 10-20 years or more? Pull up a rockin' chair and lay some wisdom on us!

The coyotes here are huge and there are no wolves at all in the area and the coyotes don't look like there is even a drop of dog blood in them. They are top of the local food chain. Nothing hunts them, and they are pig fat on garbage and cat food, plus local cats and dogs and any poultry...

[[[[[[[.....That wasn't around 40 years ago that you feel is a vast improvement over the way 'grandma' did it? Such as better feed, DE, automatic doors, electric fencing, etc......]]]]]] Sorry to be the one to disillusion you, but 40 years ago, we had better feed, electric fencing, DE, stock...
