    Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I guess I have no idea either. I think worst case scenario, 6/7 Roos, best case 3/7. There is only one that I am convinced is a girl. I hope I can tell soon, but I am just impatient.

The sandbox is still lying on the lawn, but I hope to get to it this weekend. Got a big box of DE, and will add ash and sand. I probably wouldn't have used it in this rain, even with the covered run, as it blows in the sides too much. It will be great when the ground is damp (today would've been...

Well, if I get my usual 70% boys, I may want to unload a few of them down your way. (And I DON'T mean letting them escape in Gardiner! )

51 and liking it here, too! I need to get some bifocals though. Always reaching for those reading glasses, - now where did I put them......? SCG, maybe it is just me, but I think many of us still feel like we are 12, even into old age. I am off to pick up my turtle sandbox/ chicken dust bath...

    Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Well, that's the surprising thing. If I don't count our sick hen or the Marans that has never laid eggs, we have 25 hens. One of those is a cross-beak that only lays occasionally, and we are averaging 19 eggs a day, which seems pretty good. You may be correct that just DE will not work, but DH...

Thanks! Well, we're not sure where the lice came from, but we did add pullets to our flock. We quarantined them to make sure they had no diseases, but never examined them for lice. Stupid, I know. We can almost never catch a chicken except in the dead of night. You should have seen our chase...

    Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Friday the 13th was my birthday, so it was a good day for me! Fire is scary! So glad you did not lose the house and no one was hurt. We dusted all of our birds yesterday for mites, and discovered some had lice, too. It's going to be a long battle. Congratulations on your hatch!

Here too. Second incubator and 2 Eco-glows. I also really enjoyed this hatch-a-long! Thank you all who made it happen! :)

Thanks for the tip! And since SCG is on the Maine thread, I have a pharmacist at the ready! Thanks SCG for the half-life info. I can wait to get rid of these dreaded mites!

Thanks all, for the mite info! SCG, - how long do you avoid eating the eggs after treatment? I'm thinking of doing the injectable (water based) ivermectin in their water. the site with that info says they eat the eggs even while treating, but I don't think I want to. I don't know how long to...

    Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Thanks for all the info on mites, Ron! I posted in the emergency/disease section and couldn't get a response. I've been poring over so much information. It looks like I will be spending my vacation cleaning the coop and treating the birds. We are torn as to what to use. Frontline is...

    Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

At least I have a chance of catching up here, now that the hatching is done! I brought my sick hen inside, and she is crawling with mites! For now, I just used DE, but need to buy something else (I want to avoid Sevin if possible). She has trouble keeping her head up, and one eye doesn't open...

    Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Thanks, dsqard. I just went up and checked on him, and the lump is not looking that red at the moment, but I will keep an eye on it. He won't come out from under the Eco-glow this morning, while all the others are eating and exploring. I wish I were home more to check on him, but the weekend...

    Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I don't know about the chick with the distended belly. My late hatcher chick has a lump under it's belly (navel area?) that is pink and exposed. Maybe this is normal, but the other chicks don't have it. He is screeching his distress call as I write this. I haven't been home much to observe...

    Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I filled out the form: 20 of 49. My late-hatching Basque is still hanging on, but I am not confident that he'll make it. He had started to fluff this morning, and could move a few steps, but was still exhausted and a little damp-looking, so I left him in the incubator this morning. This...

    Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

So sorry to Wisher and java girl about this hatch. My first hatch, I got one out of 30, and then the chick died, so my advice is to try, try again. Thank you all for your advice and well-wishes for my semi-comatose chick. I was afraid to look this morning, but DH says he is fluffed up and...
