    Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

Monday, April 30th is my last day of work. It will be a short day, too, as I have a couple of phantom hours the department/state won't cash out, so I'll be "burning" them that afternoon. I'll be headed home at 1530 hours. Yesterday evening, when I got home at 1920 hours, the "starving"...

I know that about styrofoam already, which is also known as "Chicken Crack" around here. Every now and then a piece of it will fall out of a box before I get it stuffed into the garbage can WITH THE LID SECURED and I will later find a new bit of sculptured art designed by addicted chickens...

I moved my Easter chicks out to the ginormous brooder in the coop (with their EcoGlow 50) this past weekend. They are loving the extra space - it's large enough for 50 chicks for five weeks; I have 27 chicks in it. The rest of the flock is VERY interested in the noise from it; some pullets...

My dad used to say the Montana Department of Transportation was responsible for me, as my parents lived for a time next to the Transportation yard... In December, the highway snow plows warmed up in the yard to head out at 5 A.M. It was too early to get up, and too cold to go back to sleep. ;)...

Ditto. On the year and birth month, plus most of the other comments. I'm just hoping my fibromyalgia will stop its progression once I am not working (SIX work days to go!) because I intend to stay above the ground for many more years.

Aaack! Oh my goodness, that parrotlet is.... "amazing.". At least I experienced amazement upon seeing it. Congrats, Spangled - quite an impressive hatch rate! ....counting today, only 8 more work days before I retire. I used to be a great employee, a good worker, diligent, focussed, with...

    Mahonri's 3rd Annual, BYC Easter Hatch-a-long!

I haven't the slightest chance of catching up while I'm at work, so I'm just gonna post and backtrack from it to catch up later tonight. I got home from work yesterday, Day 24 for me, and found 3 hatchlings; by this morning there were a total of six. All in one incubator. All EEs. All...

I guess I'll go with 21 chicks hatched, although I did set a day and a half late and there are more eggs in the 'bators.... but I'm not holding out hope for them. I'm not sad, either - every hatched chick is a miracle to me and I have 21 of 'em right now. Off to fill in my data: 46 eggs...

I'm hazarding a guess my hatch is done, now, but I will wait until after another overnight before I give up on the remainder of the eggs.

Ya think I would have known better to get the two bags o' feed into the coop before the gravel was delivered in a huge pile in my driveway. In front of the coop. On the opposite side of the pile from the feed.

I think I have a 17th hatching.... 13 of the 16 out of their shells are in the brooder; the two bravest have ventured out from under the EcoGlow to check out the food dish.

Well, I woke up to the sound of more chicks than the two which had made it out of their shells last night. "Cool!" I thought and made my cup of coffee, then meandered around the house as I do on the weekends, until the coffee kicks in. When I entered the "office/guest/Nursery/Incubation"...

Chick #2 is out! Both of these are a day early, as I set my eggs a day late. mallory, I always wait until day 25 to turn everything off and give up on what's left in the incubator(s).

I have a chick! It hatched without my seeing a pip or zip, too. (Well, I did go on a dump run with John to get rid of a lot of trash....) And now there's a chick in the incubator with the most eggs, and it's skootching along over the top of the eggs.

Ohmygoodness! Ohmygoodness!! None of the eggs have pipped - externally - but I have just heard at least two different and VERY annoyed sounding chicks peeping from inside their shells in the incubators!!! It is officially the moment of time beginning the Nose Prints On The Incubator...

Still no pips. I couldn't have killed them all..... by NOT candling them, right? My hatch date is tomorrow, and I have often had late hatches anyway. I know the temperature in the "office/Nursery/Incubation/Guest" room isn't stable, and we did have some pretty cold snaps. Plus I go in...

And then a chick hatched, then two more.... In the amount of time it took for me to catch up!!! I'm still pipless. <*sigh*>
