That is so cool! Those are the luckiest babies to be able to do that!
The older I get the more I like to play with my pets! I'm 44. I really never guessed there were so many on BYC that were teens in the 80"s
I bought an "exposed" 3 year old miniature mare at an auction. The owner said she'd been running with his 2 year old stallion for the past couple of weeks. Imagine my surprise when she came home and promptly delivered a premie filly. Unfortunately the mare didn't produce any milk right away and...
I can do that, I am still waiting for shipped eggs I bought last october, maybe those hens will cooperate this week.
Who doesn't? Need some here!!!!
Good grief! You do have an interesting life. What do you do about killer equines? I have one that tries to stomp cats, unfortunately with some...
Wow! So many babies! Congrats to all the contest winners and THANKS to everyone who made this the best hatch-along ever! Last year was my first hatchalong and I have hatched almost 400 chicks since then. Kind of scary when you think about it, good thing DH doesn't read my hatch notes.
Did any of the eggs I sent you hatch??
Hooray for Iowacanas! I got an unexpected color in mine, can't wait to see what they look like when they grow up I guess the duckwing Iowa Blue is dominant over the black? If they are anything like my last batch though I think you'll like them
My final report for hatch:
From my own eggs: 35 out of 43 locked down (50 set)
Icelandics picked up from NotAFarm: 22 out of 23 locked down (24 set)
Shipped eggs from Kathyinmo: 7 out of 9 locked down (22 set)
Shipped eggs from LuckyPickens and Ruth: 0 out of 7 locked down (40 set) All had been...
Well, finally back after not being able to post much yesterday. Seems to be working OK now! I have had a good hatch with the non shipped eggs, All done in 1588 #2: I have 21 out of 24 Iowacanas in lock down (2 late quitter, one pipped & died) and 22 out of 23 NotAFarm Icelandics (1 late...
Ugg I can't seem to post from the computer today. I'll try the phone, but no pics. Got home to a bunch of pips and the first one popped at 10 pm! It's a Dreki baby! Woke up this morning to an instant Icelandic flock. 18 and counting!
Whew! Thanks I feel better.
That is quite the horse you have in your avatar!
I have the acreage, but now sales ability. If I owned something like that I'd need to be able to sell what I hatch!
I got a little OEG/EE from a swap egg, just the tiniest thing. He is now best buds with the biggest one from that hatch and seems to do OK. He IS a game bird though and super quick. I think if your little silkie stays with his/her hatch mates it might be OK.
I think I need a slap too! I am so...
I have hatched both in the cartons and laying down and have had problems both ways. Laying them down seems to work better for me as I tend to overcrowd my 1588s My experience with hatching in cartons has resulted in pipping below the edge of the carton where I couldn't see - especially with...
I did the final candle and locked down late last night. Well, I did turn them this morning but I knew I wouldn't have time to do all the rest before work.
Let's see if I can post my spreadsheet:
Home Set Pulled Lock Down Viability Hatch Hatch Rate
Iowa Blues 11 2 9 82%

The problem is there are LOTS of rules but some are contradictory!
Beautiful Boo Roo!
At this point any signs of leaks or smell should go for sure. Anything that doesn't look "full" with a good air cell may not be good, but if in doubt leave it. There are some good pictures posted if you...
My DH seems indifferent to the hatching process but he is always the first to hear them. I've caught him cheepcheepcheeping at the incubator when he thinks I'm not looking
