I used jasmine green tea because I happened to have some. I didn't have any star anise, though, so I went without that. I think you can make them with any type of tea you like, it just alters the flavor a bit in the end. I'm going to experiment in the future and see if I can tweak it a bit with...- DraigAthar

I only soaked mine for about 6 hours, so the flavor is subtle. I think if I soaked them overnight they'd have a stronger flavor. Very tasty, though!- DraigAthar
