how accurate would you think a 60 yr old original mercury thermometer is in the Farm Master 1200 we have.
Had loads of bad hatches last year even though we ran 3 different digitals inside it. This year I am thinking just use the original thermometer and it's holding temp right at the arrow...
In our 1200 egg farm master, I used a large floor tile to fit across the water pan area, then used the plastic drawer dividers fit in to cover the area. They are 1 1/2 inches deep and sometimes have to fill hem daily to get the humidity up at lockdown.
oh... starting seeds... what a thought!! LOL
All I can say is DH said sell it, too, and after he got into it and cleaned it up, he wants to keep it. :)
Wow... that's just WOW!. And I thought ours was a Monsterbator. Seriously I don't know whether i would consider that a blessing or a curse.
It must hold 4000+ eggs-- probably left there because no one could budge it. I'd read through the thread and multiply everything by 5 :)
Good luck to you!
Staggered hatch#2 has begun, with 3 marans popping out. We pulled all water Tuesday after last weekend's hatch and humidity was 16% until I filled water trays and sponges Friday night. Right now it is 44% and I am not increasing it because it seems they are coming out ok. We pulled 7 trays...
Rainwolf, thanks for specifics. I , too, have wondered how the hens do it but we have had similar problems with broody hens having dead chicks in the sheLL. Our best hatch was a RIR who went broody in the middle of summer. I seldom let the marans go broody because they seem to go psycho and...
And there is no way we can picture the hatchings. All we can do is listen for chirps to indicate activity. We limited ourselves to opening every 12 hours to remove chicks. I don't think they were jumping trays, but they may have been hitting their heads on the tray above them.
Rainwolf, re: your...
Thank you for the input Marquisella. I have heard that before and since separated the marans eggs into very dark, dark and somewhat lighter in various trays, I cansay the darkest eggs had the lowest hatch rate. and the lighter ones increased hatch. We do dry hatching but, is there a lower...
DH has taken a major liking to pulling /pushing the turner(roller) handles on our trays. We may never use an autoturner again. Actually because this retains heat and humidity so well, and it only takes about a minute to open, turn 8 trays and close, recovery is within 5 minutes. I don't think a...
Anyone have any problems with chicks being injured in the trays? We lost 3 chicks with what look like mild injuries on the head and back. They were found ( at differetn times) at the backs of the trays. One was a bantam that no way would have been too tall but it looks like a back of head...
36 hours later and we are still hatching..... very slowly. We have about a dozen each of the banties and marans with a some still pipping. We quickly opened things last evening, this morning and tonight to remove hatchlings to the brooders, turn next week's hatch, add more HOT water, spray warm...
Day 20 in the Monster-Bator and I hear 2 distinct peeps- Likely from the banties that were under a hen 1 day. Cannot see a thing in the trays. Thanks to advice here, I have placed 4 Rubbermaid plastic trays on the tile to replace the missing water tray: 3 @ 6x15 and then 1 long narrow one. This...
Maryhsong.. thank you! I know those plastic trays! Will head to Dollar store when this darn snow stops............ if it ever stops. Our 18x18 tile is 3 inches short of the cleat ends too but I extended the cookie sheet somewhat into the void. I like the idea of the tile being somewhat of a...
Thanks Rainwolf.
We are still using the cookie sheet but DSIL has 1 more week to manufacture our water tray. I have sponges stockpiled and expect to use them to boost humidity but I just couldnt' foresee getting to 65% like I have used in the LG. 40-50% seems more doable.
Another question as we near lockdown in the monster incubator: Should i still be aiming for 50% humidity for lockdown? It holds 16 % with no water added. After adding water, it reaches 28% for a few hours.
What humidity does everyone use in these?
Candled tonight at the 2 week point. Many...
I have to laugh at myself and the monster-bator. Remember we are testing this 1200 egg FarmMaster and now have 12 dozen eggs in its8 trays. We are somewhere around day 10.
Tonight I went to open the door latch to turn the eggs and the latch came off in my hands. ( Notice this does not happen to...
Still learning.
Was demonstrating the trays in the incubator to the DD and SIL this evening and realized that using the sliders ( double bottoms) in the trays as turners only works if the trays are full. With partially full trays, the eggs wiggle but do not turn over. I have the 12 dozen eggs...
I'd like to add a warning label to these redwoods. If you fear chicken math, RUN from redwood incubators.
One week ago,DD and I started our test run with 8 dozen eggs ( 4 doz from each of us) which is more than enough to hatch.
tonight we added 4 dozen more-- because there was an empty tray and...
I loaded up our FarmMaster 1200 yesterday with about 6 dozen eggs. No, it's not very full but I could spread out the egg types in various trays. ftw: does the paper toweling on the tray bottoms interfere with the air flow at all?We found an 18 x18 ceramic tile at Lowes to put on the water tray...
