    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

I use it too so I'm not disagreeing. I don't use it as a complete feed because I'd prefer my birds get more from free ranging. Free ranging birds that fill their crop with bugs and grasses & standing green millet, barley, alfalfa and wheat are much healthier than those that I once kept penned...

And if I may ask, why do you keep your chickens in utility trailers?

Sorry to say but YES. They could have been outside a few weeks ago. What do you mean 24 Cornish cross and 5 broilers? What are your broilers?

Probably means if it is bad enough to contain botulism or something that would kill all the birds.

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

I used to keep a cockerel or two from each batch of 100. I would choose the biggest that had no mobility problems and keep him for several more months. They get turkey size real quick. They won't even fit in the crockpot. Lower protein, more vegetables and ACV - they never had heart-attacks...

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Well a 55 gallon drum would be HUGE to do 50 lbs, I've done 40 lbs at a time in 18 gallon Rubbermaid totes

Yeah 150 birds will not sterilize the ground of .5 acre but it wont be pretty, just like Beekissed said. 150 hungry chickens will do some serious work.

You can make a very large tractor that isn't hard to move. Mine for meat birds are 18'x18'x2' and they are able to spend a whole day without destroying the ground.

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Well a few weeks ago I was making 10 gallons every day for my cornish x rocks. I butchered 107 of them over the past few weeks and they got ferment from 3-8 weeks old. I kept one cockerel alive who currently weighs over 12 lbs and is on a restricted diet of fermented feed and veggies. Other...

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Yeah I have made it last for like 10 days before but I just prefer to use it up and have a fresh batch. As soon as it's fermented, I pour off the water and start a new batch and the completed stuff is gone two days later. Just my method - didn't mean to inject it as a necessity.

No the heat is what activates the bacteria (good bacterias) Don't let it bake and bake but warmth is a good thing. It shouldn't be sitting around for longer than a couple days anyway.

They learned how to eat...again. Yeah I'm glad that you saved it. They'll come around and soon wont want anything except ferment.

The feed is safe to be left out. The 30 mins is to establish a "feed time" Fermented feed has good bacteria that will protect it from souring/molding for quite a while.

People sure make a lot out of this fermented feed thing. Linda seems to be the expert around but seriously everyone just try it. It's not an exact science, figure out what works with your situation

Remove all feed for 12-14 hours and then give them fermented feed with a little bit of dry sprinkled over. Don't even offer it until they are in a feeding frenzy. Of course keep the water available even when the food is gone.
