Mine has air bubble holes on the top of it, but when I start messing with it (working it with the kitty litter scoop), it starts "talking" to me and I know it's working!

I keep my FF in the unheated basement and usually don't have to worry about it freezing. When I carry the buckets out to feed my birds they become a tripping hazard; they walk in front of me and between my legs and act like they're starving!

Catching up from the weekend...I'm 54 (birthday's in January) and just starting the FF process. My first batch is cooking/fermenting. I go through 150 pounds of feed each week, so I'm very much looking forward to the advantages of FF!
