Thanks for the tips on long-term vacation! I may just have to switch to dry feed during that time. There's 18 birds, and in my region the standard temps during late December are 40s-50s during the day, and down to the mid to low 30s at night.
The dog's outside water dish tends to freeze at night...
Does anyone have any tips for FF while on vacation? I'm going to be gone for at least a week around Christmas, and can't figure out how to automate wet feed.
No pasty butt so far, but I didn't give them flax when they were super little - I waited until they were a few weeks old. I bought a 25 lb bag, you shouldn't have to worry about rancidity as long as they aren't crushed or ground.
Thank you! In that case, should I even bother dehydrating the liver? It may be easier to add it pureed, or maybe diced.. any tips on where to get limestone?
I'm formulating a new homemade feed, but I'm not sure if it can be fermented. The protein source in the feed will be dehydrated beef liver. Can small pieces of meat go into the FF?
The feed would be
50 lbs wheat
50 lbs oats
8 lbs dried liver
1/2 lb trace mineral salt
I know most commercial...
How long do you guys allow your feed to sit and ferment? Right now my feed is only in the bucket for 12-18 hours before being fed, but I'd like to start doing larger batches because my 5-week chicks are eating a LOT! Could I do a week's worth of feed at once?
I'm sorry if this has already been addressed, but at what age can you begin feeding FF only once a day?
Mine are 3 weeks old and I'm still feeding twice daily.
