    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

@Beekissed I just was reading about the Gnarly Bunch and it prompted me to jump in since they are older birds. We moved birds in with my BF birds, her birds are three-year-old's and they hadn't laid in at least 6 months, one maybe a year. Anyway, got my bucket going about two months ago and now...

Thanks for sharing that detailed info on your feeding regimen I know you have been doing this awhile. Always nice to have those with experience sharing with us newer chicken keepers.

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Of course they jump up there are get feed on their feet, that is what chickens do. Haven't seen anyone poop up there but I guess that is possible, as far as the adults. We will see what the chicks do, this is the first time I am using a stump with them. So far I like it. Seems to work for us...

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

I will snap a pic, no dishes to clean our or worry about is the main benefit. Plus the stump is higher so I don't have to add anything additional to the run to elevate their feeder. Plus it was free! Stump in the run for the adult flock, no ferment on it atm, that is oyster shells. Love that...

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Thought I would share my ferment stir stick, nothing fancy, my BF cut it for me. It works well except food gets stuck in the tube. Also got back to fermenting a couple months ago, I feed on stumps in the run. I just set up a flat stump for our 4 day old chicks who also are getting fermented feed...

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

I fed FF to our hatched chicks last year out of this type of feeder as well as the round feeder that Lazy Gardner mentioned. Had no issues what so ever. I started with putting piles of ferment on Tupperware lids in the bottom of the brooder. Then after a couple of days of that and then I...

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

I see a few folks from Colorado on this thread, check out the Colorado thread. Not that I am trying to steer people away from this thread. It is a pretty active board and helpful group. Just saying hi from Boulder, Colorado. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/68894/colorado

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Ok so finally located the aquarium heater in storage and I remembered now that the heater had a short in it, so won't be trying my fermenting experiment outside.

Well I hear ya on the skepticism, only one way to find out? I will check out the flat back heated buckets. The heater is titanium... Thanks for the input...... I should be able to have my heater in hand tomorrow after I dig it out of storage. I will post results in here.

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

For those interested, I was going to be conducting an experiment using a seedling heat mat and thermal cube for keeping my ferment buckets from freezing in the cold Colorado winters. Well I didn't get very far into my plan before deciding to change the set up. I decided that the seedling mat and...

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Thanks for clarifying what dl stood for, I am familiar with the deep litter method. We got about 7 inches of snow overnightght, but I hadn't had time to get my ferment station up and running. Suppose to be chilly until Saturday.

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Good to know about fermenting in a tub, guess I will stick with the bucket. So our temps can get chilly in Colorado, we have been having a fairly mild winter thus far. Overnight our lows are in the 20-30's right now and our daytime temps have ranged from about the same to as warm as 65 a couple...

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

My cube comes Friday, hoping to get my experiment up and running next week. I will be fermenting in a tub (I got that idea from Hennible, who I think got from you?) anyway, we are sharing a living space now and storing FF in the new space isn't possible. My understanding of the seed mat is they...

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Greeting all! Thought I would jump on here to ask all of you a question on FF. Here is my problem, live in Colorado where it gets cold enough for the ferment buckets to freeze, as I have to ferment outside as we have no space inside for a ferment station. What all do you do in the cold...
