Speaking of city slickers and gullibility, we had a dog named Bogey (a lab/pit mix) when we were living in Los Angeles. He was white with big black spots and looked a lot like a Holstein cow. He was a very pretty dog and people would come up to us and ask us what breed he was. Without batting...
Bee, your temps have got to be a lot colder than what we are experiencing in north Alabama but I've found that when I take out a 5 gallon bucket of really hot water to thaw their frozen waterers, I don't use it all. I have been using that water to replenish my FF which I have in the coop in a...
Mine routinely has a white film on it after about the second or third day in the bucket. It is GOOD stuff so no worries on feeding it to your birds. The technical name for it is SCOBY - an acronym for "symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast". I believe Beekissed has some pictures posted much...
I don't purchase Bragg's anymore. I order generic ACV with the mother from Vitacost.com. Lots cheaper and just as good. I get most of my vitamins and other supplements from them as well. If you have trouble finding Bragg's it might be a good resource for you.
It may just be that some don't like them, like some people like or don't like a certain food, because my chickens LOVE them. I caught a couple crawling on the side of our house and took them into the run and they snatched the slugs right out of the bamboo tongs I was using to handle the nasty...
I guess you could say indefinitely as you use the remains of the initial batch of fermented feed to continue the process. I've been doing this now for almost three weeks and I've had to replenish my bucket just twice with some additional feed and water. Since the feed left in the bottom of the...
I am loving feeding the FF and my little flock seems to love eating it. I must admit to one thing which I would consider a major downside to FF. We really want to take a week-long vacation to Florida in November but since the chickens are now on FF, I wonder how they are going to get fed since...
Well, y'all, I finally did it. I went after work yesterday and purchased a 50# bag of layer pellets, a 50# bag of three grain scratch, and a 50# bag of BOSS. I put a big scoop each of the pellets and scratch and a small bit of BOSS into a food-safe plastic bucket, covered it with water, added...
Okay, that being said....it hasn't been our usual "hot as Hades" summer here in north Alabama. We haven't had a single day reach past the mid 90's yet. NOT that I'm complaining mind you....not in the slightest. I could do without the torrential rains we've had but that's another story. Can I...
I need help! As soon as I decided I wanted to raise chickens, I began researching. I've been lurking and visiting BYC since early 2012 and finally joined in early 2013 but I just got my first chickens this past Sunday. A friend was planning on reducing the older birds in her flock to make...
