    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Not quite. Spent grain is almost always grain that has been boiled as the first stage of making beer or other alcoholic beverages. They boil it to extract some of the content and then usually just throw away the grain before moving on to adding yeast to ferment their beverage. Still great for...

Are you asking due to the protein percentage? I used to ferment 28% protein for my quail and it is fine.

10 posts per page and slightly less than a full 861 pages. So 8,605 posts including this one. Average of 4.394790602655771 posts per day (which seems low). Edit. Hahaha. I did not see the little "post number" that is in the upper right. I actually did the math and counted the number of...

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

I was going to do minutes, but I got lazy with the conversion. It was started at 6:31 PM which I assume is my time zone. So about.... 4 hours and 15 minutes shy of 1,959 days. About 2,820,705 minutes?

"In Lactobacillus, non-trehalose-fermenting species showed better survival rates after freeze-drying than did fermenting species, and those species with teichoic acid in the cell wall showed lower survival rates during storage than species with teichoic acid in the cell membrane." Survival of...

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

I did a search on this thread and I did not see where the following was ever discussed. Has anyone used properly diluted Electrolyte and Vitamin mix (for example, Durvet, or "Sav-A-Chick") for the water component of their fermented feed? Seems like it would kill two birds with one stone...

And the earlier you start them on it, the more likely they are to eat it with no complaints. They have eaten nothing else, so they don't know to be picky. Not like the day old chicks will demand crumbles or something. :)

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

I use a 5 gallon bucket with a "Gamma" Lid that screws on for a normally airtight seal. I just drilled 4 small holes in the lid (so now it will never seal again. Small enough that anything larger than a fruit fly cant get in. But obviously air can get out if the pressure builds. Keeps the...

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

For an example of what happened with me... I got birds that were 8 weeks old. I assume they were on crumbles before. I started them with FF from day one. They did not eat anything until late day 2. So they might hold out for a while, but they should come around.

The problem is that you are not removing the dry food! I know you don't want them to starve, but if you leave two options, they are going to go with what they know. Take away the dry for a day and see what happens.

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

It can be really tough sometimes since they can greatly increase or decrease their consumption day to day. Weather..level of egg production....rolling a pair of dice that morning....they saw a hawk 3 days ago.....who knows. I am dealing with quail, which seem to be equally fickle. I have had...

If on the side seems low, can you maybe add a brick under the cinderblock to raise it a couple inches? That seems like the best middle ground.

    FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

I took a really small drill bit and drilled a couple holes in my lid. That way I can still have it on tight, but there is the ability for air to escape if the fermenting builds up pressure. My holes are small enough that a fly could not get in. And if one did, I think the acidity of the feed...
