Carebear, this is from a local nursery on fall planting:
August Planting List
August is the in-between month between warm season and cool season vegetables. It’s not too late to put in final crop of Warm Season Veggies such as Beans, Corn, Cucumbers, Eggplant, Squash and Tomatoes from...
We are getting our big summer garden ready for fall; so we opened the gates and invited the chickens to visit. They spent a happy day helping us. They are not fans of the peppers, berry vines or winter squash so things will probably be safe for a few days of bug hunting.
We are planting, but...
I did a lot of reading on summer pruning benefits in California for pruning the trees.
But, the reality is only one of the peach trees sets good useful peaches.
Yesterday, today and guessing tomorrow, we are taming some peach trees-aka pruning them so I can reach the top from my 8' orchard ladder. The ones that have peaches that have fruit we don't like. Either too small, too cling or too mealy (these are probably all self planted and not good grafted...
I dug up our garlic, onions and shallots. The Costco white garlic did okay, making small but usable heads, it was the first one up by weeks. The $$$ white garlic we bought at the feed store did a bit better, and the $$$ purple garlic also from the feed store did the best

I moved another dozen wheel barrow loads of dirt from the bottom of the hill to the top for my upper terrace, whew I think I am done there!

And a giant water bill....ooops Have to reteach mom not to blast with the hose since it is all on a soaker or drip system and might not look wet, but it is
I am almost done building the first terrace! I need a few dozen more loads of dirt dug up, put in the little wheel barrow and drug up the hill.
I am going to dig the bottom part of the property down about 6" probably 10x60? leaving a 6 foot wide planter/berm to make a collection area for...
Okay, so the roses did not go in today or the last couple of bricks
BUT I got a few more stumps out (smaller fruit tree ones) and cleaned up a corner we have been putting off for years.
Tomorrow and Sunday, I am going to dig out the last stumps-at least a dozen and rake up years worth of old...
This week in the yard (slow to add to this thread)
I started on digging some terraces (we are on a hill side) I wanted to look at the lines for a few days before I start making a low retaining wall with stack bricks. I dug a bunch of other dirt and spread to level a different section out. Am...
