I picked some zucchini and tomatoes, and collected seed from some annuals for next year. It is cold and rainy up here, so really nothing much else to do except weed, weed, weed.
I don't have the recipe as the lady brought it to my house. I only saw her make the fried shallots for the topping, and then put the dish in the oven. I'm assuming she made everything from scratch and used all fresh ingredients. It was very good. The shallots weren't soggy like those fried ones...
I've had green bean casserole made exactly that way, with also some red bell peppers in it. Much better than the usual green bean casserole, which I am not fond of. A lady who has now passed made it one year for Christmas.
I collected seed from peas for next year, harvested cherry tomatoes and zucchini, and did some watering. Pretty warm and smoky here so I wasn't outside for too long.
It's been a glorious morning here, so far. After weeks of gray and rain, it is sunny and warm. I planted a row of crookneck squash, some rainbow Swiss chard, and a few tomato plants. Watered peas, carrots, spinach and the rest. Also planted out some seed raised cosmos and bachelor's buttons. And...
I dug potatoes, harvested a few late cucumbers and watched hummingbirds swarm the big fuchsia bush by the front door. It's so smoky here from wildfires far away that I can't take being out in it for too long, but we are supposed to finally get rain this weekend. Yay!
