I wish I had at that place, lol, but it was a rental. I have one on my porch now (and security cameras), sadly the moths set it off most of the time, but it was what lead to running off a fox at 1AM one night. Sniff around my chickens.... *grumble grumble* He hasn't come back!
Urbanized coyotes also have no fear of people, they'll snatch pets off the leash while out walking. Or try.
A wild animal with no fear is bad news. Very bad news. Please look out for your safety. When we lived in the country, if it was close to dusk, or after, I walked armed to the chicken...
Most likely, but how they didn't notice that thing go flying off the back I'll never know. You'd surely feel your shocks, or leaf springs, decompress a bit after losing a load like that. But there was no one pulled over and nobody was making an effort to move it.
Saw one of those tiny coops like you get at tsc smashed in the middle of southbound I-25 last night on my way home. First instinct: scanned the area for loose chickens, lol.
High wind advisories in effect past my work exit on I-70 as well. Bet the truckers aren't happy but oh well. I'm sitting here in my nice warm scale house, drinking tea and snacking on pemmican, only popped out for some air a minute ago. Warming up pretty nice! Think I'll work on the coop a tiny...
Lol, that's the only place I've seen any out here. Quite the mental image though, grab his little hobo bag, throw it over his shoulder and say he's off to the mountains to go gambling or whatnot.
Snowed a little in the Springs before I left (3:30 AM) and snowed a little in Golden when I got to work. Not snowing now, but foggy as heck. Also not windy here. Have to ask hubby how the birds did this morning. hmm
Edit: Reluctant to mingle in the cold, he said.
They're over a year old, they're just on strike. I know a couple of them molted (not all not enough feathers for that), they looked awful, but they feathered back out over a month ago.
P.S. I was so worried about the sudden drop in production at that time that we installed a security cam on the...
I started with seven Silver Laced Wyandottes, lost three to predator attacks earlier this year. The four I have are nice enough birds, cold hardy for sure, but they're reluctant to give me eggs with the shortening days. Slackers... Need to pay their rent, lol.
My broody did a great job too, for it being just her first time and her only seven months old. Day 22 like clockwork she got off the nest and hollered for me. She was done and they weren't hatching. Candled the eggs to check development, all quitters and duds. I'm not faulting the hen, she did...
My neighbors aren't big fans of the ducks but thus far nobody has complained. The rooster doesn't make a racket, so I'm not worried about him, just the ducks. They are my loud mouths.
Oh crud. Sorry for your loss dear. I'll second your question about humidity, and add that I won't buy and have shipped any eggs that come from a place at less than 3,000 feet after my first disastrous hatch.
Hey you sound like me trying to further my blue eggers along, lol. Those babies are all so adorable! This is where my problem with chicken math comes from, those tiny little balls of fluff right there!
For the nice person asking about HOA's in Parker and Castle Rock... Don't count on it. We lived in Douglas County for a couple of years and while the county allows for chickens depending on your lot size (#poultry per x amount of land), and the cities have their own limitations, you're not...
