Hello all. A weird week for the chickens....
Had 1 day where a little puller go into the coop a poke holes in ALL the eggs! Luckily never happened again...
Then another day I heard crowing coming from the hen house and all my Roos were outside. So after about 20 minutes of sitting in there I...
@uzisuzuki sorry about the job, but you move forward and look to the future, and maybe that future holds raising peahens!!
@lomine congrats on the new place, looks like a great start for the animals at the very least...
@Mtn Margie I hope all went as it should with the shearing, I'm sure with...
Thanks Margie. Sadly no pipping today so we are at somewhere between 36 - 48 hours since the 3rd egg hatched so I think it's safe to say 3 out of 9 is what the final count will be.....
Something I'm curious about and would like input from any of you willing to give it. Is there such a thing...
Hi everyone, glad to see BYC up and running again, was so sad that so many things happened and I couldn't post.
1st thing my husband finished the new hen house and I finally got all my chickens out of the green house . It was partially done, but no nesting boxes or doors, so life became...
@COChix
Not sure where your at, but wanted to mention there is a critter swap at Big R in Falcon/Peyton this Saturday and again the 3rd Saturday of the month.
Welcome Jsat!!
Yes once the chickens are fully feathered they can remain outside and can tolerate much colder than 30°. The thing is giving them shelter which is draft and miosture free. I currently have 15 chickens outside (with access to a coop and hen house) The youngest is 9 weeks old. It...
So I picked up these little girls the other day at local TSC and was asked if I wanted to take home all remaining birds after chick days ends,
(I adopted free birds in the past). Well my husband and I went in last night and they still have about 100 chickens and 2 dozen ducks!! Hahaha chick...
When you said she wasn't laying yet I was going to ask what their eggs looked like, that is quite large!!
Congrats on the birds, sorry about the job :-(
Welcome to the Colorado board.
So it's been snowing for 3 hours this morning, me and the chickens are super ready for some sun!!
Good luck to those of you hatching, the anticipation would be too much for me to handle, lol!
Well here in the middle of state the weather has also improved but I made the mistake of forgetting to plug the heated water fountain back in after my husband used the electric cord and this morning had a big chunk of ice! I really hope that the last freeze, but I know better...
Got a beautiful...
Updated pic of my random free TSC chicks. Pretty positive on 1 cockerel, 1 pullet (black sex link) and the other 4 still in question. I never had a sultan (white chick) so not sure what to look for as they have such a different feathering, but I dig it's little mohawk!!
I'm between Larkspur and Colorado Springs and wanting to sell my 10 month old cuckoo marans cockerel. $15.00 He is great at being a roo and will protect his girls with everything hes got, but not people friendly. Treats his ladies great, no aggressive mounting and probably darn near 100%...
Thanks for this, it helps. I thought the striped was a Barred rock, but wasn't sure if there were other similar bantam breeds, it's funny how similar some can look.
Do you have bantams and large fowl mixed in your flock? We mostly free range so I'm not concerned about them being small and...
Here are the 2 with feathers on their feet.
I know that the smaller white 1 is a Sultan because it has 5 toes, but I don't think that Sultans come in 'bantam' size, am I wrong? Girl at TSC also thought the sultan might be 3 weeks not 4 like the others.
I have no idea what the tan bird is.
So I went to TSC to get some feed and look at gold sex link pullets, came back home with the feed and 6 straight run bantams?!?!
They were free, getting to old, starting to fly out of their tub....
Its not as bad as it could've been, they tried to convince me to take all 20....lol!
With our...
