'Weird egg' found in run this morning.
Actually saw it get laid yesterday afternoon but didn't know what they were doing at the time. This girl had been laying thin shelled eggs the last few weeks. Wonky shell gland for sure, she never has been quite 'right'. She'll get a full exam off the roost...
Shelled egg inside another thin shelled egg.
The membrane on the 'white' egg could probably be peeled off (much easier when fresh and wet) to show the blue shell underneath membrane.
Was there anything 'normal inside that?
Looks to be bacterial...and abnormal ova.
Ever had another?
Could be a fluke, or hen has serious infection or fistula.
Might be because you need something like 10 posts before you can attach pics?
Small blood spots are pretty common, a lot of blood is not unheard of....
.....both caused by broken blood vessels along the way, some larger than others.
Happening once or twice is not something to be too alarmed...
Sooo back to weird egg pics.
Get this egg consistently, still don't know which hen is laying it.
Can't catch her at it, if and when I do I'll band her and she'll become soup...
...and it will be interesting to see if there any obvious malformation of her reproductive system.
Shell is always...
If you look closely at the ingredients on that package I think you'll find it's mostly clays(Calcium Bentonite)...and only a small part DE.
Even 100% DE will not kill a mite or lice infestation.
'Natural' dusting does not always prevent a mite infestation......
...especially if they are the kind of mites that live in the coop structure and only come out to feed on birds at night.
Even 'dusting' the birds(what did you use to treat them?) will not get rid of that kind of mite.
'Big...
What breed are they?
Where are you located?
What and how exactly are you feeding?
If you're getting a lot of them, it would be a good idea to start a new thread in the egglaying forum giving all the details.
