And, Hi!
I'm back. Flock is doing well, but Bob is gone. Euthanized late last winter. He was just too enthusiastic with the girls, and they were missing too many feathers. Then 2 weeks ago, Ethel the Easter Egger passed away with no obvious disease or injuries. Maybe she had an egg...
Hi aart,
I had to do the same thing last winter with our oldest Lab. 16 years he lived and loved us unconditionally. We have a reg Vet, and she came to our home to bring him to a peaceful end. It was really well done, we all got to say our goodbyes and get a final hug. The other dogs also...
I haven’t posted in awhile, things have crazy here. One of our cats got poisoned by the neighbor trying to put a stop to their mouse problem. He was at deaths door, but is making a very slow recovery at home after a 4 day and night vet stay.
So I took a second to pop in and say Hi!
LOL I have a 3rd Wyandotte wanting to go broody this year (my first)! I am not having it! Here is a pic of the clutch of 5 that hatched 3 weeks ago. Just started going outside yesterday. 1 is hid behind momma.
I for one vote no! I practically pee’d myself when my little one followed momma right back up the ramp the first time. It can’t ever get old! Now the baby at 3WO is on the platform with momma in the morning waiting for me to open the pop door!
There are lots of threads on this site regarding integration of younger birds to older birds. I am super lucky that I have a broody that has done a stellar job of integrating my little chick now, almost 3wo. The flock has completely accepted the little stinker, including my rooster. It has...
There is someone that needs to rehome a black silkie cockerel/rooster in Livingston County.... The thread is https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/trying-to-find-an-adopter.1241214/
So this just happened... My juvenile broody momma led the 2wo chick out of the coop and into the run!! Up one ramp, and down the other to get there! I thought I'd have a couple more weeks, LOL! When time was done, baby followed momma right back into the coop like a champ!
I may be recovered...
That is sweet about the first to hatch! My day was loaded with work so didn’t do much chicken related except take pics of the chick, make sure the river of melt water continues to flow out unimpeded. Then this afternoon, the DW calls me and tells me the cats are in the run with the chickens...
Ah yes SPRING!! Spending the day bailing melt water out of the barn and watching the remaining baby chick. Could not help myself any longer and scooped it up and checked the wing feathering. Seems to be a pullet! If so, I have a special name for her. Here is a pic.
I was rewarded with 3 baby chicks today when I finished shoveling away 2 foot of snow so the chickens could get outside! 3 out of 4, the last May be a dud, I will give it another day or 2...broody momma doing quite well for still being a pullet!
