Electrical isn't something we like to mess with. Had an electrician run power to our new garage last year. We're almost ready for him to come back and finish wiring the inside. We're doing all the construction work ourselves. If we can build a house we can build a garage I think. :fl How are...

I couldn't ask for better weather up here. It's a little chilly but I'll take it over too hot. That's a bummer about your 20a. I should have my coops wired but I'm too lazy I just run HD extension cords for the winter. My coops are less than 25 feet from my garage.

It was pretty windy up here so the yard was cleared by lunch time. I opened all the windows when I got home from work and aired out the house. I have family showing up tonight and tomorrow morning for the weekend so I'm glad I dont have to de-skunk my dog. Hopefully with all the ruckus in the...

Pullets started to lay eggs well at least one is so far. About a month ahead of schedule. Also woke up to the awful nose burning aroma of skunk wafting in through the windows of my house at 5:30 this morning. I'm not sure what ticked off pepe this morning but it happened in my yard. Just glad...

'Made' mama take the chicks into the big run today. Was pretty funny. Some of the chicks were afraid, some of the adults are afraid of mama. It's amazing how big and mean a momma chicken can be when she's protecting her babies. Always makes me laugh when they puff up like a blow fish.

Raz I'm glad to hear it's going well. I can't imagine stocking in a 40 degree cooler wo gloves. I know I live in northern Michigan but I prefer to be warm. I'm the weird chick that wears sweaters until it's at least 70 degrees out.

Cleaning isn't my favorite chore but it had to be done. I'm glad I'm getting closer to being done. Wish I could go to CS but I'm scheduled to work all weekend. Maybe next year I'll be more prepared and can go.

Good morning all. Raz hows the new job? Both of my coops and runs are officially clean. Scrubbed em both out last night with soapy water, a hose and mop. Now I have to sanitize the insides, wait for it to dry and white wash. Hoping to have everything ready in my front coop to move the pullets...

I was thinking about doing the same thing. I have a friend that works for a local tree company and I can get as much as I want. My only concern is that they hold moisture. Moisture in the shade equals a perfect environment for nasty stuff to grow. Do you have any pictures of the finished product?

Moving the coops and runs are not an option. Unfortunately. Way to big and I built them to stay in one spot. I can't find a big picture of both but I can tell you they're roughly 52-54 feet end to end both coops and runs. I built fort nox to keep predators out since I live deep in the woods...

I'm not entirely sure most of them were over 5 years old. I think they caught something from the wild bird population since they had been free ranging a lot lately. It happened so fast. I cleaned my front coop 4x8 and run 8x17 last night. Pulled 10 wheel barrels of dirt. Dug down to the red...

You endured longer than most would have. Best of luck to you. Wish I could make it to CS this year but it's my weekend to work and about a 3 hour drive of I obide the speed limit. Maybe next year I will be better prepared to go. It would be nice to put faces and names together.

Mutts and Silly I appreciate both of your input. Mutts my dilemma is I have 8 pullets housed my my garage in a brooder that won't be big enough very soon. I can clean, sanitize and scrub my big coop which is 8x8 and put them in there in about 30 days. I'm so terrified they are going to or have...

What a day! It was chilly today but I'm glad the sun was shining. Hubby took me for a Harley ride this afternoon after work. We both needed it after all the stress we've both been through this past week. Any one have any experience or two cents to share for using oxine to sanitize coops? Also...
